Utah Phillips: My Body is My Ballot
|
Utah Phillips while being interviewed by Amy Goodman on Democracy Now quoted Ammon Hennacy by saying "My body is my ballot." On the website Press Action they blogged that although these words are inspiring because we live in a time in need of more action and less talk, he followed up with a 180 degree turn and a sucker punch. The reason according to Press Action is Utah goes against the anarchist credo by claiming that different groups of activists need to get together and vote in the Democrats who are our only hope of getting out the current group of corporate fascists masquerading as Republicans. Press Action feels that if we are to really save our planet then the Democrats also have to be carried out of office. I weigh in with my own reflections on this debate in a hope to bring to light some understanding and awareness of this debate on our dire need to act and what that entails.
