Dan Rather suing CBS

Hello, it's Thursday the 20 of September, 2007. I'm Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update.

Veteran news anchor Dan Rather is now suing CBS. He filed a 70 million dollar lawsuit earlier this week naming CBS' CEO, President and the network's former parent company Viacom. Rather resigned from "CBS Evening News" after apparently reporting on a discredited story about Bush's military record. Rather says he was made a "scapegoat" to smooth things over with the White House. The CBS spokeswoman says the lawsuit is "without merit."

There's more tension between exes Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards. Richards reportedly filed legal papers Tuesday asking a California judge to protect their two daughters from Sheen. The papers apparently say the actor has issues that he needs to address. There's no indication of what those issues are. Richards filed for divorce in November of 2005. It became official last year.

Stars of the new film "Trade" are spreading awareness about human trafficking. The film's star Kevin Kline, his wife Phoepe Cates, and actress Sigourney Weaver were all at the United Nations last night to attend the premiere of the film. Alijcia Bachleda and Cesar Ramos also appear in the film, and were there as well. The movie is about a young girl kidnapped for sex trafficking.

Just hours after a judge ordered Britney Spears to clean up her act...she was already out on the town. The pop star was seen at a Los Angeles nightclub with singer Avril Levigne Tuesday night...taking shots and apparently dancing on the tables. Earlier that day a judge in the custody battle between Spears and Federline called her a "habitual, frequent and continuous" drug and alcohol user and ordered that she get random drug testing twice weekly.

Actress Jessica Alba and comedian Dane Cook are teaming up for a new film. They attended the premiere for their new romantic comedy "Good Luck Chuck" last night in Los Angeles. Sasha Pieterse who also stars in the film was there as well. Eddie Murphy and his fiancé Tracey Edmonds also attended the event. The film is about a man who finds himself very popular with women. It hits theaters tomorrow.

That's all for now. Go to upi.com for all the day's news and updates. Thanks for watching.
