In 1908, as a small boy, he was chosen to succeed GuangXu as "Great Emperor of the Great Qing Dynasty, Grand Khan of Tartary, the Son of Heaven and Lord of 10000 Years". As Emperor Xuantong he reigned while regents ruled until the revolution and abdicated in 1912.
