if you are talking "hiphop" on US soil. Kool Herc is often said to be the man. But at the same time, flash and bam were doing their thing in different parts of the bronx. There is abooked called Last Night A Dj Saved My Life I suggest checking it out. it covers all music and is a great read.

kool herc was the first dj to bring out to the mainstream at block parties, but he didnt mix the music, he would throw a record then wait for it to complete stop to throw the other , now flash was the one who began mixin' records to keep the same beat goin longer[/b]
