Tales of ovid by Ted Hughes, is an amazing piece of work, and pretty much anything by steinbeck is marvellous, check out these too, you won't be dissapointed.

Live From Death Row - Mumia Abu Jamal

This is amazing... It was very hard to find, but it's really good. For those who don't know, Abu Jamal is on the 'Homeland and HipHop' skit on Immortal Technique's LP: Revolutionary Vol. II. Abu Jamal has been on death row since 1982, I think. If you can get your hands on it, do.

for those who are reading autobiography of malcolm x, when you're done with that, read Malcolm Speaks. these are collections of interviews with a number of caucasians and, supposedly, have not been altered. the context in which he speaks has remained the same and it gives you an idea as to why many of the things he did say were taken out of context.

Thanks for that. I'll check it out. I read Malcolm X - Make It Plain. That's quite simplistic and has lots of old photographs, if anyone's interested in just getting an overview... sort of.

indeed....one of the BEST books i've ever read. malcom's ideas manifested as they were from his own mouth. i really, really miss that spirit he possessed. whoever said celestine prophecy too....great book. i need to read catcher in the rye again...been a long time

It's a long complex book, but it's mainly about the life of a man who was a convict (for stealing food), and he breaks parole and runs away to live a new life, and he becomes a good, upstanding citizen but there's a police inspector who's always trying to hunt him down. It takes place at the beginning of the 19th century.

Incidentally, "The Fugitive" TV series and movie were partially inspired by Les Miserables.

I recomend "Finding Freedom" by Jarvis Jay Masters. It's just writings while in Death Row. You'd probably enjoy it..
