I am bronze skinned;
Raspberry-colored lips.
You can see your broken spirit
in the glossy darkness of my hair;
I am the mirrored image of shattered spirits before me
Who still found the strength to
Birth their children in fields & then continue working
Carry a starving infant through a snowstorm on
frail, blistered feet;
Those who survived the trail of tears.
I am strength that you can't comprehend;
Magic that you can't understand.
I am the juicy taste of a fresh pear--
and the satisfaction delivered by quenching hunger & thirst
simultaneously.
I can be the diamond in your crown;
Treat you like the King you were created to be
Or built yourself to be in your mind.
I am not your average...but I can blend into a crowd.
My beauty stretches across time, but
what's most remarkable about me is that my timelessness
is timed.
My flawlessness is criticized.
I am torn apart but put together;
I am better than the whores I'm betrayed for, yet
my patience is a virtue that has kept me subdued.
No longer.
I am a phoenix,
rising from the ashes
Letting my fire consume me
consume you
consume the world that I am used to.
I am gold and bronze and beauty
and danger.
I am remarkable and untouchable...
glitter coarses through my veins
and across the glossiness you see my sisters. mothers. bloodlines
that flow through me before me, during me and daughters after me.
My strength...its sexy.
It strikes fear into the mediocre.
It settles anger but starts wars...
I am a beautiful nightmare after an unsettled sweet dream...
At the end of the day...the phoenix rises from the ruins
to create the next generation of
strength and
beauty and
danger, yet
unyielding consequence.
I am the phoenix.
You will hear me
before I entrance you with my beauty--
my war cry..the rebel yell of millions of shattered yet standing souls...
will penetrate you like a needle
and withdraw your fear...
and respect.

Thank you I appreciate that.
I published a book last January called "Liberation/Heiress" under my real name, Jasmine T. Sims (you can find it on Amazon) & I'm planning on publishing another one next month...this is where I've posted all of my writings for the last 7-8 years so I can never abandon Hip Hop Elements...I'm glad to still have fans and poetry appreciaters here...I will continue to post here as much as I can for as long as I write.

Peace.

And its pronounced Tah-Reen or Ty-reen. Either way is acceptable lol.

Tah-Reen it is. Just got two copies. A friend of mine loves poetry way more than I, and I owe them a good gift so here's a two-for!
