NO SPOILERS..

What was the last movie you've seen, and how was it?

Here some I've seen(my grammas suck, don't care even if you want to=) :

Image

Przypadek(1987) (Blind Chance)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084549/

Colud be that I was a little tired when i started to see this one, but didn't quite ever get into it, and it was not among my favourites, but then again, a good movie.

Image

Vozvrashcheniye(2003)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376968/

I guess others can feel this movie more than me. It's about two young boys that suddenly get a visit from their father that they haven't seen before. He takes them both with him on a trip to be fishing and such.

All in all a good movie, unknown director in my eyes, but still he made a good first one for me. This is a movie with a pretty dark mood and got some questions for the viewer that is hard to get hold on. I think that it would be a more relevant and disturbing movie if you come from the same type of family situation, as the boys in this one..

4.5/6

Image

Bad Boy Bubby(1993)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106341/

This one i enjoyed, loveable movie about a 30 year old man that has lived with his mother his entire life. Things happend, and yeah bubby is a tender one=) Pure enjoyment to watch..

HAHAHAHA/WOW/BEAUTIFUL/WTF

Så Som I Himmelen(2004) (As in Heaven)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382330/

Got this one recommended by a taxi driver that drove me home one day, probably tired of working and wanted a chat. Talked for half an hour or something, shared movietittles, and I got a cheaper trip home=) He said it was a good movie, and i have to agree, typical scandinavnian with a little city there everybody knows everybody and then go into the head of the people that is used to have everything going one way, but..

You'll love it, get it=)

Image

The City Of Lost Children(1995) (Cité des enfants perdus, La)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112682/

A very nice movie to watch, delightfull pictures.. It's like a different little world when you look at a Jeunet movie, gotta love the strong man named "One", that is getting help from a little girl with the cute name "Miette" on the search for his kidnapped little brother.. An adult child movie that looks great one the screen.. Can't wait to see Delicatessen=)

12 Angry Men(1957)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050083/

I didn't know if I had seen this before, but found out that I had.. Didn't remember it thou, so surely pretty tired... Love it! A very clever movie that just takes you from start to the ending, and you want MORE!! My cup of tea without a shadow of a doubt =)

It questions a lot of moral questions, and fronts the ignorance beautifully(hoho). And it manages to be so intense that you can't look away from the screen.. Now among my personal favourites.

No doubt in my body and soul,

Image

Ali Zaoua, Prince De La Rue(2000)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0260688/

This movie is about four children that lives on the streets of Morocco. They left the gang they earlier was a part of to go for themselves. One unfortunate event turns the lifes of the children upside down, and they've got a mission.

It was a great movie in many ways, but the way it puts you in their position is what got me the most.. You're there with them..

Dial M For Murder(1954)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046912/

Alfred Hitchcocks Dial M For Murder is a truly incredible movie about the perfect murder. It's a very clever movie with lots of twists and turns for the head. Makes you wonder if you could get away with murder yourself;)

Somelike 12 Angry Men, you sit put to hear and see what's in front of you to get a hold on how things possibly could be done, have been done and how to get away with it, a very detailed movie, remember everything! Don't leave any clues out, and you won't regret seeing this one;) Please do.. It's hard to keep away from the holy 6, but something is missing to be quite up there..

5+,6-/6

Image

Blechtrommel, Die(1979)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078875/

Hmm, this movie is so hard not to give pure 6, but i have to let i grow on me some I think. One of my new personal favourites. This is such a good movie about a little boy named Oskar. Oskar decides when he's young that he don't want to grow up, ever. He doesn't want to be like the other adults. When Oskar is three year old he get a tin drum that he plays whenever he feels uncomfortable with the situation he's in. We'll follow Oskar in his adventorous and intresting life.

Der Blechtrommel is a thinker! It's kind of surreal thing about the begining of the new german empire made by the man they call der fùhrer.
A lot of satire about the nazi's is under every stone in this movie, funny, thrilling, frightening and every other genre is included, a truly bizare experience of a movie.. Great one!

6-/6

Image

American Psycho(2000)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0144084/

Crazy little thing about the "normal" american big shot in the buisness world. This is kind of frightening because I'm so sure that the posibility that somebody is like this man we meet, Patrick Bateman. He's a twisted, loco man. I guess many other people can recognize themselves in him better than I can, but I truly believe that we have more people that think this way than we believe. HAHA, just sick to see how much he endores himselves in some scenes. Guranteed a thinker this one.. Seen it before too, and it didn't get any worse this time..

Watch it !!

Caché (2005)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387898/

This movie is about a couple that receives a tape of somebody filming their home from the outside. Creepy, and they start to wonder what this is, and so will you;)

4/6

Image

Persona (1966)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060827/

"A nurse, Alma (Bibi Andersson), has been assigned to care for a famous actress, Elizabeth (Liv Ullman), who suddenly stopped speaking during a performance of Electra and has remained silent ever since."

This is a very nice movie indeed, the relation between the nurse and the actor, it gets very inside the head of each one of the two. Going to see this one again, no doubt. Just delightful to look at.

5+/6

Image

Hotel Rwanda(2004)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0395169/

A powerful movie based on a true story about the hotel manager that uses his hotel to store refugees from the Hutu military forces. The Tutsi people is getting slaughtered and somebody got to step up to help them.

One very strong movie about the conflict between Tutsi and Hutu People in Rwanda. It makes you think, and almost do something yourself, but we're to lazy. I know I am. Great movie thou, have to get through to somebody, so I hope and believe this movie has done some good for the people of Rwanda and other struggling places..

Gone Baby Gone(2007)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0452623/

This is yet anohter kidnapping movie, but also a good one. The vanishing of a "junkie-moms" little daughter has som interesting turn and twists. What is the the right thing? This is the question that troubles me after watching this movie. I just don't get setteld with myself on any opinion.

A little thinker indeed,

Naked Lunch(1991)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102511/

A bug exterminator kills his wife after getting addicted to the substance he uses to kill the bugs with. We experience the life of the main character out of his eyes and mind, how he looks upon the world. Althou a good movie, doesn't belong among the top in my book, but maybe I'll watch it again sometime.

Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, Le(2001)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0211915/

"Amelie, an innocent and naive girl in Paris, with her own sense of justice, decides to help those around her and along the way, discovers love"

Love this movie, and I want to marrie Amelie, I love her..

Jumps direct on the list of my personal favourites.

Into the Wild (2007)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758758/

This hit me in the gut, and it felt good. Must be one of the most inspirational films I've ever seen, LOVED IT. And is now, one of my personal favourites. Goldstar in MY book=)

"After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandons his possessions, gives his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life"

Image

Funny Games (1997)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119167/

"Two psychotic young men take a mother, father, and son hostage in their vacation cabin and force them to play sadistic "games" with one another for their own amusement."

Some funny, some corny, some frustrating, but mostly violently. It could remind of the typical drama movie that you can see in the daytime at you TV, but suddenly the SUPERNICE two young men from next door starts creeping you out. They show no remorse or no hesitating in their decisions along the way of their funny game. And they love playing.

Image

8½ (1963)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056801/

Guido is a film director, trying to relax after his last big hit. He can't get a moments peace, however, with the people who have worked with him in the past constantly looking for more work. He wrestles with his conscience, but is unable to come up with a new idea. While thinking, he starts to recall major happenings in his life, and all the women he has loved and left. An autobiographical film of Fellini, about the trials and tribulations of film making.

Didn't have the best first experience with this one, watched half on the train half asleep, the rest when I got home, I do need to see it again before I make up my mind on this one, looked perdy indeed when I got home, but on the train it was a bit unclean with all the shine on the screen. Not one of my favourites, but maybe som beautiful day it will be, doubt it thou.

It was one of the movies that I've always been sure I was going to like, so perhaps I will, next time.

Image

Solyaris (1972)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069293/

The Solaris mission has established a base on a planet that appears to host some kind of intelligence, but the details are hazy and very secret. After the mysterious demise of one of the three scientists on the base, the main character is sent out to replace him. He finds the station run-down and the two remaining scientists cold and secretive. When he also encounters his wife who has been dead for seven years, he begins to appreciate the baffling nature of the alien intelligence.

Not my type of movie, but a fairly good one after all. My first experience with Andrei Tarkovsky, I do hope the next visit by mr. Tarkovsky will be more exciting for me.

Laberinto del fauno, El (Pan's Labyrinth ) (2006)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457430/

In 1944 fascist Spain, a girl, fascinated with fairy-tales, is sent along with her pregnant mother to live with her new stepfather, a ruthless captain of the Spanish army. During the night, she meets a fairy who takes her to an old faun in the center of the labyrinth. He tells her she's a princess, but must prove her royalty by surviving three gruesome tasks. If she fails, she will never prove herself to be the the true princess and will never see her real father, the king, again.

Great movie, after watching lots of movies I really didn't care for, this little diamond popped out of the box and struck me. I thought I was going to see a movie about a whole fantasy world, but that was not the outcome. It is an extremely elegant and bright yet kind of dark at times to express what I mean perfectly=) A mixture of A Very Long Engagement and Chasing the Kidneystone (Jakten på nyresteinen). And a good mixture on top of that. Watch it !! =)

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105665/

A young FBI agent disappears while investigating a murder miles from Twin Peaks that may be related to the future murder of Laura Palmer; the last week of the life of Laura Palmer is chronicled.

Love the series, love the movie.. The constantly fearful atmosphere of this movie is so creepy. You just know something is out there, but you don't know what. On the hunt to understand what lies beneath and behind all of the characters action and thoughts you find yourself pretty much troubled. Incredible suspense makes this movie so amazing, and the series of course.. And I do LOVE the Lynch movies I've seen so far..

Image

The Air I Breathe (2007)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0485851/

A drama based on an ancient Chinese proverb that breaks life down into four emotional cornerstones: happiness, pleasure, sorrow and love. A businessman (Whitaker) bets his life on a horse race; a gangster (Fraser) sees the future; a pop star (Gellar) falls prey to a crime boss (Garcia); a doctor (Bacon) must save the love of his life.

This I had big hopes for, sort of failed. Althou had its moments at some times. It's bascially about different people wanting out of their current situation, and we'll get to see how they mange the obstacles on the way to their own "freedom". I guess I was to tired once again, but maybe the movies fault.

The Man from Earth (2007)

An impromptu goodbye party for Professor John Oldman becomes a mysterious interrogation after the retiring scholar reveals to his colleagues he is an immortal who has walked the earth for 14,000 years.

Hahaha, this one got me good, sat with my eyes wide open the whole time.. A very interesting plot in this movie, not so great except an incredible plot.. Enjoyed this one very much, got me wondering the whole time watching.. Another movie that I just wanted more of, almost played it again..

The movie will turn the head of any believer of anything, the matter of it is making reasonable doubt of any.......what we call common sense/religion/science etc.. Some funny lines in there too=)

Edith: [talking about God] He's everywhere. We just can't see him.
Harry: Pfft. If this was the best I could do, I'd be hiding, too.

Before Sunset (2004)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381681/

It's nine years after Jesse and Celine first met; now, they encounter one another on the French leg of Jesse's book tour.

This had a very good dialogue between the actors, that made the movie. A film made out of the the great chemistry between the actors, not the typical movie i'd wacth, but had it avaible so went with it..

Leben der Anderen, Das (2006)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405094/

The horrifying, sometimes unintentionally funny system of observation in the former East Germany. In the early 1980s, the successful dramatist Georg Dreyman and his longtime companion Christa-Maria Sieland, a popular actress, are big intellectual stars in the socialist state, although they secretly don't always think loyal to the party line. One day, the Minister of Culture becomes interested in Christa, so the secret service agent Wiesler is instructed to observe and sound out the couple, but their life fascinates him more and more

L.A. Confidential (1997)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119488/

Quote:
A shooting at an all night diner is investigated by three LA policemen in their own unique ways.

There's a trio of LA policemen that each investigate the murder of several people at an all-night diner. The three policemen do all work different to investigate the crime.

I've seen this one before sometime, but didn't remember it all, so I thought I had to see it today. This is not a movie that'll be stuck on my mind, but indeed a very good movie. Just don't got that little special x-factor to get me to really love this movie. Didn't do that for me, but wouldn't throw it away.. A good one..

Rashômon (1950)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0042876/

In ancient Japan, a woman is raped and her husband killed. The film gives us four viewpoints of the incident - one for each defendant - each revealing a little more detail. Which version, if any, is the real truth about what happened ?

This was a handsome looking movie, just don't know how they make it look so good.. I feel I have to see more of Kurosawas movies, I'm getting Seven Samurais & Ran hope they're just a beautiful.. This still doesn't make the cut of my personal favourites, hope the others do thou.

Delicatessen (1991)

Post-apocalyptic surrealist black comedy about the landlord of an apartment building who creates cannibalistic meals for his odd tenants.

Once again Jeunet traps me into his little colorful world. It's very delightful to watch, and the picture alone is a treat to look at. I really enjoyed this movie.

The story this time is about the surreal everyday life of the strange tenants, and how they have settled with the rules of the house and what the buthcer/landlord tells them to do.

There's also an underworld in this post-apocalyptic movie, the people there is called troglodytes and is not a huge fan of the the world above their heads. They just want to have a meal in front of them.

Good thread. You have the eye for quality. I'm caught in the summer-blockbuster swing right now [Iron Man kicked that off, and it's mostly entertainment over substance], but I have a list of movies I'll catch up on eventually.

I did finally get around to seeing Into the Wild. Great story and like you said, very inspirational. What got to me a little bit was the pace. Simple premise that tried to do just a little too much. Felt like it was maybe a half hour too long. Very good though. I'd give it a 4/5

I'm just posting the movies I've seen these last months, so alot in the start of the thread.. I'll calm down after I've posted the ones I've posted on my homepage.. But still looking at lots of movies.. At the moment I'm going to see Cidade dos Homens(City Of Men), but not the movie, a series.. Saw two episodes yesterday, GREAT series.. Will get back to them, meanwhile:

Image

The Elephant Man (1980)

A Victorian surgeon rescues a heavily disfigured man who is mistreated while scraping a living as a side-show freak. Behind his monstrous facade, there is revealed a person of intelligence and sensitivity.

WOW!! Please help me, I'm in need of synonyms for "WOW".. The Elephant Man by David Lynch must be one of the absolute best movies I've ever seen.. Absolutely LOVED it, one of my personal favourites without a doubt, this is a beautiful and very strong masterpiece.

A very on point film about the sadness and joy of the John Merrick, The Elephant Man. He just wants to be loved by somebody, and be in peace with everything and everybody that surrounds him.

Image

The movie talks for everybody that has a disability or is a little special. And also, what's the right thing to do, how is somebody better than the other? You'll understand what I've mean when you see it..

One of the best ever imo,

Image

The Godfather (1972)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068646/

Vito Corleone is the aging don (head) of the Corleone Mafia Family. His youngest son Michael has returned from WWII just in time to see the wedding of Connie Corleone (Michael's sister) to Carlo Rizzi. All of Michael's family is involved with the Mafia, but Michael just wants to live a normal life. Drug dealer Virgil Sollozzo is looking for Mafia Families to offer him protection in exchange for a profit of the drug money. And he approaches Don Corleone with the idea

6/6 - Nothing to pull back here, I understand why it has got all the good words about it..

Image

The Godfather: Part II (1974)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071562/

The continuing saga of the Corleone crime family tells the story of a young Vito Corleone growing up in Sicily and in 1910s New York; and follows Michael Corleone in the 1950s as he attempts to expand the family business into Las Vegas, Hollywood and Cuba.

6/6 - Truly one of the greatest movies I've seen..

Image

The Godfather: Part III (1990)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099674/

In the midst of trying to legitimize his business dealings in 1979 New York and Italy, aging mafia don Michael Corleone seeks to vow for his sins while taking a young protégé under his wing.

5/6 - Althou a great movie, didn't have the same chemistry as in the two before, but I would like to see upon the trilogy as one long movie instead..

There it is, one of my largest holes in the wall of all the movies I've seen is now gone.. I've seen The Godfather(pt. 1) one time before a long time ago, so it didn't quite count.. Didn't remember much, this trilogy is an excellent watching thou.. Interesting story keeps you in one with the screen.. To bad it's not many more so good trilogies.. If you've by some mistake not seen this yet, do it, pretty please.. It's a must ;)

Image

Requiem (2006)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454931/

An epileptic girl suffers a breakdown during her first year at university, then decides to seek help from a priest in battling the troubles associated with her strict upbringing.

This movie isn't that bad at, at first I wasn't too excited about this movie, but after a while this was a interesting little piece.. Really enjoyed the main character, she did a good job..

4/6

Image

Blue Velvet (1986)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090756/

After finding a severed human ear in a field, a young man soon discovers a sinister underworld lying just beneath his idyllic suburban home town.

I've really forgot how simply wonderful and dark Blue Velvet is, WOW, love the mytiscm in this flick.. One of my favourite movies from my favourite director, the problem with David Lynch is that every one of his best is among the very best movies I've ever seen, he got a incredible way to make everything very exciting.. It's got to do with the "drrrrrr" - constant sound in some scenes, and the fact that he leaves so much of the story untold while he's telling it..

6-/6

Image

Faces (1968)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062952/

An old married man leaves his wife for a younger woman. Shortly after, his ex-wife also begins a relationship with a younger partner. The film follows their struggles to find love amongst each other.

The movie goes under each of the main characters skin and developes a kind of empathy to their life as they goes trough some drastic changes. A funny little piece that intrudes the mind of both you and the characters. You can recognize yourself in some situations and you'll try to understand the reasoning of different acts. A fairly good one, but not among my favourites. I think it appeals more to the 25years and up group of people. A middlelife-crisis movie..

3+/6

Image

Coffee and Cigarettes (2003)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379217/

A series of vignettes that all have coffee and cigarettes in common.

It's a movie with several short films about some famous people enjoy coffee and cigarettes, I think I wanna see more from this director. A goodlooking little thing..

4+/6

Image

Idioterne (1998)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0154421/

The group of people gather at the house in Copenhagen suburb to break all the limitations and to bring out the "inner idiot" in themselves.

Idiotene is a danish dogme movie and a good one.. The strange group is strangely enough all in toghether to act retarded in the little town. I really don't know what Lars Von Trier wants to tell us with this one, but surely something to do with not being so strict about the norms of the society. Not sure thou..

Anyway, good one=)

Festen (1998)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0154420/

A darkly comic journey into forbidden family territory. No one can ignore a person like Danish patriarch Helge Klingenfeldt. So on his sixtieth birthday, a celebration is required. Friends and relatives scurry to the country estate. Eventually, every family's secrets will come out. And since his twin sister's death two months ago, prodigal son Christian is more haunted than usual. The time has come for the darkest family skeleton to be revealed, and it must be done in their father's style - with flair, and malice.

This was a very interesting movie, I really liked it alot.. And YOU should see it to. A strong one,

Seul contre tous (1998)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0157016/

France, 1980. A retired horsemeat butcher fights to survive. After abandoning his teenage daughter, and hoping to rebuild a new life, he moves to Lille with his pregnant lover. He doesn't love her. He likes even less living at his mother-in-law's apartment. Quickly his hopes turn into bitterness, and this bitterness into obsessions.

A very moody movie, you'll have the constant bad feel in your head, and it screws up your mind, nicely at that.. Very sickening movie, but the sickening is the truth about this mans mind and matter about things.. How life is constructed, got me good this one.. A very strong movie that will get some spinning around time in my head..

She returns to her apartment where she is gruesomely murdered by a hideous creature. Meanwhile, the young American is trying to settle in at the ballet school, but hears strange noises and is troubled by bizarre occurrences.

Wow, this looks alot like twin peaks/blue velvet/lynch.. The colours, the suspense, the involving story.. It got me good, this will not be forgotten in a hurry.. A nice movie indeed, and some things I did not expect.. A thrilling experience..

One of Luis Bunuel's most free-form and purely Surrealist films, consisting of a series of only vaguely related episodes - most famously, the dinner party scene where people sit on lavatories round a dinner table on, occasionally retiring to a little room to eat.

A nice movie to watch, but not among my personal favourites.. Some funny scenes, sort of life "Du levande" type of a movie, just without my type of humor.. Indeed worth seeing thou..

Uzak (2002)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0346094/

Mahmut, a 40 year old independent photographer, is a "village boy made good" at least professionally in the big city - Istanbul in this case. After his wife leaves him, he falls into an existential crisis. Then comes his cousin Yusuf, who left his native village after a local factory closed down, effectively unemploying over half the local men. He looks to Istanbul for salvation: a job on board a ship sailing abroad, at once exciting and crucial to supporting his family in the desperately poor village. The distance between the two men is apparent at once, and becomes increasingly pronounced. Whereas Mahmut is adusted to big city life and suffers from many of its neuroses, Yusuf is a lonely, excentric country worker with annoying nervous and hygienic habits, and a sick mother back home he must somehow support. This intimate drama was filmed in the director's apartment in Istanbul, using all his furniture, appliances, rooms, car and so on as the film's props. The actor playing Yusuf is actually the director's real-life cousin, and the actor playing Mahmut is an actual friend, a non-professional actor.

This was interesting, about the relation between the two people who both struggle with each their problem, due to the lack of many dialogues you'll get inside their head real good.. I sat focused all the way through with some scenes more intense than others, but all in all a good movie.. I recognized myself in alot of these situations between them.. It's kind of like the situations that you'll see in the "Seinfeld" series..

Taxidermia (2006)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0410730/

Taxidermia, being of the most grotesque pictures I have seen, is nontheless a brilliant and symbolically powerful work. The continuously revisited motiff, being beastiality and the animal nature in all humans is depicted through many explicit scenes to cause the viewer discomfort. The end result - acknowledgement of the trueness of the film. It trails the lives of three generations of men with no self respect, no common sense and all living abnormal lives. They all frame themselves in the same negative fashion as the previous one. With photography as artistic as many renowned directors, Gyorgy Palfi manipulates the Mise an Scene to convey messages of emotional magnitude and deeper meaning. A film which is difficult to sit through, but still highly recomended. Not for the lightest of stomachs:)

Among the more interesting movies I've seen in a while, just gripping with a touch of the nature of humans.. Goodlooking movie with some funny stories..

The plot couldn't be simpler or its attack on capital punishment (and the act of killing in general) It's several stories that combine to make the observer understand the horrific issue that captial punshiment holds.

Great movie, and the subject is executed right on point, incredibly ilustrated.. Watch it! I can't understand the death penalty's still left in different countries around the world.. Disgustingly good movie..

Baraka (1992)

A movie with no conventional plot: merely a collection of expertly photographed scenes. Subject matter has a highly environmental theme.

Baraka (1992) is a Todd-AO (70 mm) purely cinematic visual film directed by Ron Fricke, cinematographer for Koyaanisqatsi, the first of the Qatsi films by Godfrey Reggio.

Quote:
Often compared to Koyaanisqatsi, Baraka's subject matter has some similarities—including footage of various landscapes, churches, ruins, religious ceremonies, and cities thrumming with life, filmed using time-lapse photography in order to capture the great pulse of humanity as it flocks and swarms in daily activity. The film also features a number of long tracking shots through various settings, including one through former concentration camps at Auschwitz (in Nazi-occupied Poland) and Tuol Sleng (in Cambodia) turned into museums honoring their victims: over photos of the people involved, past skulls stacked in a room, to a spread of bones. In addition to making comparisons between natural and technological phenomena, such as in Koyaanisqatsi, Baraka searches for a universal cultural perspective: for instance, following a shot of an elaborate tattoo on a bathing Japanese yakuza mobster with one of Native Australian tribal paint.

The movie was filmed at 152 locations of 24 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Nepal, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, and the United States. It contains no dialogue. Instead of a story or plot, the film uses themes to present new perspectives and evoke emotion purely through cinema. The film was the first in over twenty years to be photographed in the 70mm Todd-AO format.

The title Baraka is a word that means blessing in many different languages. The score provided by Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard (from Dead Can Dance), Inkuyo, and Michael Stearns is noticeably different from the minimalist one provided by Philip Glass for Koyaanisqatsi. Notable music was also contributed by the band Brother. The film was produced by Mark Magidson, who also produced and directed the film Toward the Within, a live concert performance by Dead Can Dance. A sequel to Baraka, Samsara, is currently in production and expected to be released in 2008.

Lots of good filming about interesting spots and people around the world..

Before The Devil Knows You're Dead (2007)

Image

Andy (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and Hank (Ethan Hawke) are brothers with a swarm of troubles to their name. To break out of their cycle of debt, Andy proposes robbing the jewelry store run by their parents. At first, Hank is uneasy about this endeavor, but the immediate benefit of a quick heist is too much to ignore, and they set off with a local bar stooge to complete the job. When the simple plan goes awry in a very tragic way, Hank and Andy are caged by their misdeed like animals, with their father (Albert Finney) hungry for revenge on the perpetrators who destroyed his life.

I think Phillip Seymour Hoffman is one of the greatest actors in the game still under the radar. He gives a solid performance in this movie. The overall mood of the film is desperate and grim, and you can understand the emotion the characters display. A Plus to this film is that you get to see Marisa Tomei butt ass naked, and the frame is bangin.

Lions For Lambs (2007)

Image

Three stories told simultaneous in ninety minutes of real time: a Republican Senator who's a presidential hopeful gives an hour-long interview to a skeptical television reporter, detailing a strategy for victory in Afghanistan; two special forces ambushed on an Afghani ridge await rescue as Taliban forces close in; a poli-sci professor at a California college invites a promising student to re-engage. Decisions press upon the reporter, the student, and the soldiers.

This is a film that reflects on political and foreign issues that plague the country. Alot of whats in the film has already been discussed on CNN and MSNBC, but it gives a nudge to those still disoriented on whats going on over there. This movie is a wake up call to americans that want to see change in their government, and to take responsibility. But unfortunately, some vents in the film could confuse people even more, and leave them with uncertainty and emptiness.

À ma soeur! (Fat Girl) (2001)

Image

A Ma Soeur! is a provocative and shocking drama about sibling rivalry, family discord and relationships. Elena is 15, beautiful and flirtatious. Her less confident sister, Anais, is 12, and constantly eats. On holiday, Elena meets a young Italian student who is determined to seduce her. Anais is forced to watch in silence, conspiring with the lovers, but harbouring jealousy and similar desires. Their actions, however, have unforeseen tragic consequences for the whole family.

This one is a shocker. More controversial than Kids and maybe even Ken Park. Its hard to watch, and most people would be offended or repulsed. But whats great about the film, is the honesty. The two girls are the exact opposite, and there idea of sexuality is different.
Elena is beautiful, so sex is for her is something beautiful, Anaïs is fat and ugly, therefore sex isnt pretty. That definition sets the tone for the ending of the film, and your left with a stain on your brain. The movie ends with a horrific scene (which you'll have to see for yourself). There are no words.

Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls (1970)

Image

A hip and happenin' all girl rock group head to LA to claim lead-singer Kelly's inheritance and make it (and make it) in LA. They immediately fall under the spell of rock'n'roll Svengali, the 'Teen Tycoon' of rock Ronnie 'Z-Man' Barzell, and other rapacious Hollywood party types as lustful porno actress Ashley St Ives, ravenous lesbian Roxanne and shady lawyer Porter Hall. Soon the girls fall into a morass of drugs and deceit as their recording success soars. It takes several tragedies to make them stop and think... but is it too late?

I saw this movie when I was 13, back in the days when scrambled porn was the shit. I happened to come across this semi-corny, over acted, extra explicit cult classic. First of all, this movie could fall under the soft porn category. Alot of titties and leg licking in this one. The only problem, the story makes no fucking sense. The plot is all over the place. Roger Ebert wrote the screen play, maybe thats why hes just a critic nowadays. Lots of funny scenes, that were'nt meant to be funny. Alot of violence and sex makes for good entertainment.

Me And You And Everyone We Know (2005)

Image

Me and You and Everyone We Know' is a poetic and penetrating observation of how people struggle to connect with one another in an isolating and contemporary world. Christine Jesperson is a lonely artist and "Eldercab" driver who uses her fantastical artistic visions to draw her aspirations and objects of desire closer to her. Richard Swersey (John Hawkes), a newly single shoe salesman and father of two boys, is prepared for amazing things to happen. But when he meets the captivating Christine, he panics. Life is not so oblique for Richard's six-year-old Robby, who is having a risqué Internet romance with a stranger, and his fourteen-year-old brother Peter who becomes the guinea pig for neighborhood girls -- practicing for their future of romance and marriage

This movie is an innocent controversial film, that will make you laugh. There are some scenes in this movie that might make you a little uncomfortable, but thats kind of the point. The fourteen year old Peter has it made.

I recently caught that movie on Showtime a couple weeks ago. It raised eyebrows.

May (2002)

Image

Psychological horror about a lonely young woman traumatized by a difficult childhood, and her increasingly desperate attempts to connect with the people around her. To fill the void, she kills the people in her life and builds her own friend.

This film is rather warped. It makes you want to beware befriending isolated people. When she sticks the scissors in her eye......................that was a lil hard for me to watch.

The Last Picture Show (1971)

Image

The Last Picture Show is director Peter Bogdanovich's painful and moving look at life in a small Texan town. Adapted by Bogdanovich and Larry McMurtry from McMurtry's novel, the film chronicles the coming of age of two young men in an era that saw the final fadeout of the American frontier.

This is one of Peter Bogdanovich's finest gems. I think this was Cybil Shepherd's debut on screen. Alot of familiar faces in this film, Timothy Bottoms, Jeff Bridges, Randy Quaid, & Cloris Leachman (Beerfest).
