Here's a piece I thought out on my drive home to donate to The Independent Writers Guild for publishing this holiday season. The book will be a compilation of donated poems for underprivileged children. http://www.myspace.com/poetrychallenge

This is dedicated to my daughter and inspired by Shel Silverstein, author of 'Where the Sidewalk Ends' and 'A Light in the Attic', two favorites of mine when I was in elementary school.

Graced By The Day

Remember to smile at first wake
For everyday deserves a birthday cake
Reach down low; tickle your toes
Now hands up high; go ahead and try
Touch the sky, perhaps even fly
Well okay, eventually one day
But for right now, no time to play
You must not stray, mommy always says,
"focus" no hocus-pocus
start your day with a bit of OJ
eat your food
and remember your manners, don't be rude
brush your hair; brush your teeth
front, back, and underneath
or by thirteen you'll have no ssstheeeeethhhh
put on your coat and grab your bag
the bus rarely ever lags
it's a new time, a new day
brush off the worries of yesterday
for time does not do a double take
So remember
Everyday deserves a birthday cake.

i like the light heartedness in this peice, not everything has to be hard core intense because feelings aren't always that way... nice work and i hope you hang around...
