Yeah but they're not brilliant and she is.

Great argument.

End of discussion.

She's dope. I definitely dig her style and voice.

i can't relate to her lyrics though, it seems like something a wanna be badass white chick would bump in her Accord

I think her lyrics are why some people love her and others really don't get the hype. I personally think they're brilliant, but if you can't relate I can see why you wouldn't dig her.. The production still makes it worth listening to it every now and then though, Ronson and Remi did a great job.

Women can relate to her lyrics more than men can naturally, but I feel where she's coming from. Some of her songs like Rehab, Wake up alone, and Tears Dry on their Own I can definitely relate to. And I agree with you flawless the production is really nice. I didn't know Mark Ronson produced for her. I'm a Motown fan to the death and her production brings back that 60s motown vibe. My thing is if you like her music, listen to it. If you don't like her music, don't listen to it. It's that simple. It's not for everybody that's for sure, but she deserves respect for what she's doing. Plus she's pretty, and that's ALWAYS a good thing.
:D

^Not me. I relate to music that pops out at me and speaks to me, she isn't really anything special, IMO Don't know where all the hype is coming from, really...

^ exactly................it seems like all her songs center on the same few themes, the female R&B singers i enjoy touch on a variety of topics, it seems like she's too into the whole shock value drugs, booze, and sex joints......i personally prefer singers like Aaliyah and Mary J that give you the whole spectrum

I don't see how Mary J. sings about a greater variety of themes than any other female artist to be honest..

Don't be an ass, I didn't say a word about her in that post. That doesn't take away that I don't get why he would give Mary J. as an example when almost all her songs are about love/men/heartbreak.

the point is, she could sing about plastic bags and it would still put winehouse to shame.

Mary J's newer stuff is mostly about that, but she's also got party joints, introspection, the whole nine yards......the only reason i compared the two is because i got sick of people telling me that Winehouse is comparable to Lauryn Hill and other all time greats of the genre

That's not true at all. I don't feel all of Winehouse's lyrics but she has some hot joints I can vibe to. And she's not quite on Lauryn Hills level, or Mary Js level, and DEFINITELY not Aaliyahs level but she's doing her thing. She sings about what she knows. If that's sex, drugs, and booze let it be. So what if it's not as introspective as Mary Js heartwrenching love tales. I think she's a unique artist that still has room to grow and expand her topic themes, and she has my respect. I wonder how she sounds live. If she's ever anywhere in Ohio or near I'm gonna try and check her out. Then I'll be able to give an assessment on her live performance.
