'Bout time these kats are getting big recognition... much deserved. Not surprising it isn't for one of their official Hip Hop joints, but such is the game.

As the Grammy nominations rolled in Wednesday night, so did word that The Foreign Exchange had been named in contention for one of the coveted gramophones.
The intercontinental R&B group anchored by Durham-based emcee Phonte Coleman and Wilmington-via-Netherlands producer Nicolay is nominated for their song “Daykeeper” in the category “Best Urban/Alternative Performance.”
“Y’all have to understand that for a simple cat from Holland, this is huge,” Nicolay Tweeted to his fans after the nominations were announced. “[Phonte] and I started [The Foreign Exchange] in 2002 for the LOVE of MUSIC, and today MUSIC is still all that we are about.”
“I’m very honored by this nomination,” Phonte added. “I hope me and Nic’s success can serve as inspiration to other artists in the Carolinas.”
The idea for The Foreign Exchange came about when the then-Little Brother emcee Phonte began a cross-Atlantic musical relationship with Dutch producer Nicolay after meeting through a hip-hop message board.
The pair crafted their debut album, 2004’s
Connected, by exchanging beats and verses over e-mail without ever meeting in person.
“Daykeeper” is the lead single from The Foreign Exchange’s sophomore album
Leave It All Behind.
