Mos Def has released his highly-anticipated sophomore solo release, The New Danger (Geffen Records). The New Danger was recorded at Longview Studios in North Brookfield, MA and The Cutting Room in New York City, and will include 18 new songs including tracks such as "Ghetto Rock," "Boogie Man," "Bed Stuy Parade and Funeral March," "Close Edge" and "The Easy Spell". The release of the album will be followed by a national concert tour this fall. The "Mos Def Big Band" recently appeared at New York City's Delacorte Theater in Central Park as part of the "Joe's Pub In The Park" concert series. Drawing from material by Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Gil-Scott Heron, Beyoncé and original compositions, Mos Def lead a band featuring some of the leading names in jazz, with musical direction by percussionist Will Calhoun (Black Jack Johnson/Living Colour).

Regarded as one of hip-hop's most introspective and insightful artists, Mos Def has shaped a career that transcends music genres and artistic medium. With the release of "Universal Magnetic" in 1996 he became an underground favorite, leading to his legendary collaboration with Talib Kweli. The two formed Black Star, whose debut album, Mos Def and Talib Kweli Are…Black Star, would become one of the most critically acclaimed hip-hop albums of all time. Mos followed that release with his 1999 solo debut, Black On Both Sides, which featured the classic tracks "Ms. Fat Booty" and "Umi Says." The album was certified gold and credited by critics as bringing hip-hop back to its soapbox roots.
