Los Angeles (E! Online) - Justin Timberlake has signed up for a little fore play.

The genre-straddling singer will take over as host of the PGA Tour's annual Las Vegas event starting in 2008, the professional golfers' association announced Monday.

The inaugural Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open will take place Oct. 13-19 at the famed TPC-Summerlin course, with the Justified Grammy winner scheduled to play in an Oct. 15 celebrity Pro-Am that precedes the 72-hole tournament and host a concert sometime during the week.

"We will make sure to make this event unique and memorable, and we will raise money for charity while participating in the greatest game ever played," said Timberlake, who added that he "couldn't be more excited" to be hosting the upcoming event. "I thank the PGA Tour and the Shriners Hospitals for Children for this amazing opportunity. Raising money to better children's lives while playing golf? I can't think of a better way to pass the time."

So while all those guys out there were wishing they were Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel's current beau has been wishing he was Tiger Woods.

Golf Digest's recent ranking of golf-playing musicians has Timberlake in 15th place with a 6-stroke handicap, where he trails such green machines as Kenny G., number one with a 0.6-handicap, country star Vince Gill and Alice Cooper, who leaves the face paint at home when he putts. (Meanwhile, Lance Bass, who's listed as "new to the game," is sportin' a 36-handicap for now.)

Timberlake has also become a fixture at the annual AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, which is held in February.

"Justin's involvement will bring an unprecedented amount of attention and interest to the [event], which will assist us in our work to help young people receive the quality medical treatment they deserve, at no cost," said Shriners Hospitals for Children Board of Trustees chair Ralph Semb.

Timberlake's contract has him bringing sexy back to the fairway for the next five years.

Meaning, the George Lopez-hosted Bob Hope Chrysler Classic won't be the only big-name tourney on the block anymore.

According to the PGA, Timberlake is the 14th celeb to lend his name to a pro tour event since golfing became the de facto second career for actors, musicians and other-sport-playing athletes. He joins an illustrious list that includes fellow crooners Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Bing Crosby, Dean Martin and Glenn Campbell.

Among the A-listers known for their prowess on the links are former Melrose Place star Jack Wagner (he and Kenny G. would apparently make a great team), Michael Jordan, Jack Nicholson, Clint Eastwood, Dennis Quaid, Bill Murray, Samuel L. Jackson, Matt Lauer, Billy Crudup, Chris O'Donnell, Scott Wolf, Kevin Costner...
