David Banner

Though David Banner was slated to drop his new album, The Greatest Story Ever Told, in December, fans may be disappointed to find that the date has been pushed back to March 2008. But the Mississippi native insists its for the best.

"I've been blessed with so many opportunities...the range of my crowd has grown so much. I wanna give the new crowd of people that are now interested in David Banner the opportunity to get into it," he explains to BET.com. "I've got two movies ("This Christmas" and "Days of Wrath") dropping this year. It would be idiotic to throw an album out."

Since testifying in the congressional hearings on hip-hop in September, Banner's public profile has grown. Instead of pushing an album, he says he'd much rather focus on branding himself so that new fans can familiarize themselves with David Banner, the brand.

"Consumers buy albums because they want to be part of a movement. So, with the politics coming together, the new look, the movies that I have coming out ...I just thought it would be smart as a business man to push everything back."

Until the album drops, fans can get their Banner fixes on with his recently released single, "B.A.N. (The Love Song,)" which hit airwaves shortly after rapper T.I. was arrested in Atlanta on multiple weapons charges. So far, Banner is pleased with the song's response.

"Dude, I've never seen a song permeate all over the world as quickly as that song did and get a real street response since "Like A Pimp," he says. "I'ma just keep working until the last minute."
