"If any artist records radio promos for Julio G or grants KDAY on-air radio interviews, that artist's records will be immediately removed from Power 106 rotation."

That's the rumor that's going around the web, spreading like wildfire. According to LA based websites, these private statements have been issued by Power 106's Felli Fel and the Goodfellaz to artists to try and discourage them to boost the station's ratings.

The return of KDAY has seen skyrocketing ratings since it's debut a few months ago, now on 93.5 FM. KDAY is credited for making history back in the 80's, being the first to bring hip-hop to the radio. Back then, it was 1580 on the AM dial, and used an all hip-hop format. The station has a long history, with Dr. Dre being one of the early Mixmasters. Tony G's legendary studio "The G Spot," produced Mellow Man Ace's "Mentirosa" and Kid Frost's "La Raza."

Julio G, one of the original members of the KDAY, had a radio show with a strong following at The Beat, "West Side Radio." Due to reorganizing, he was removed from his position. Now he is back at KDAY, along with the Baka Boyz, who were also popular at Power 106, and also left due to restructuring.

Power 106 was known to pay tribute to KDAY, so the "rivalry" between the two stations almost seems out of place. But was the tribute only there because KDAY wasn't a competition at the time?

Friday Night Flavas from Power 106 brought in the likes of Greg Mack and Battlecat, both integral parts to the success of each member of the Fantastic Four.

When the story was posted, fans started taking sides and some were disappointed at the way the radio station turned into ugly competitions disregarding the listeners more than the artists.

And not to mention Emmis Communications (who owns Power 106) was already in hot water after racists tsunami remarks were made at Hot 97, causing major controversy for one of its radio personalitites.

So, was the story true?
According to a representative from Felli Fel, "that statement is definitely a rumor. He has not and would never say anything like that."

The original post cites Toon from DPG Recordz as stating "Power 106 as a station (and
specific DJ's such as Felli Fel and the wack-ass
Goodfellaz), have apparently issued private statements," referring to the artists being removed from rotation should they grant KDAY on-air interviews.

We were unable to contact Toon or find any relevance to such private statements given to the artists, but in researching this story, all the websites that had the same story regarding the "rivalry" had the same source: Dubcnn.com. In contacting the website, it was not posted as a story, only as a statement Toon from DPG Recordz wanted to air out. At press time, we are still researching where Toon originally received this information, we will keep you posted.

In contacting people who had worked with Felli Fel, or had heard his show every night, to the tune of 1.6 million listeners every night, these statements seem like a contradiction of Felli Fel's character, and he seems to have many projects that tie up his time to be involved in such situations.

All in all, KDAY is back, playing old and new hip hop, Power 106 is old school, hip-hop, R&B, and most likely than not, it looks like there is room for both stations, because many listeners have more than one station programmed on their radio.
