Actor and hip-hop artist Mos Def and Vivica A. Fox will host "Hip Hop Honors" on VH1.
The awards show, scheduled to air Oct. 12, will pay tribute to a number of innovators of hip hop, including Run-DMC, DJ Kool Herc, Public Enemy, KRS-One and the Sugarhill Gang. It also will feature performances by a number of old-school artists collaborating with up-and-coming rappers.
Among those scheduled either to perform or present awards at the show, which will tape Sunday in New York, are Ice T, the Beastie Boys, Nas, MC Hammer, Afeni Shakur and Grandmaster Flash.
Fox, who stars in the Lifetime series "Missing," recently appeared in "Kill Bill: Vol. 1" and "Ella Enchanted." Her other credits include "Soul Food" and "Independence Day."
Mos Def earned an Emmy nomination this year for his work in the HBO movie "Something the Lord Made." He's also appeared in "The Italian Job" and "Monster's Ball." Musically, he has worked with De La Soul and Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest in addition to releasing his own material. He also hosts HBO's "Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry."
