Rap act Slum Village has set a June 29 release date for its new album, "Detroit Deli (A Taste of Detroit)." The Capitol set finds Slum Village working as a duo of T3 and Elzhi, following the departure of principal member Baatin. The set's first single, "Selfish," features producer-of-the-moment Kanye West. It's No. 69 in its second week on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart.
Other tracks earmarked for the new album include "Do You," produced by former member Jay Dee, "Dirty" featuring Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard and the guitar-driven "Keep Holding On."
"I see Slum Village like the Temptations," T3 says in a statement. "They kept rotating members and it happens a lot in the industry. People go through situations where they want to do their own thing and I'm kind of like the David Ruffin type of guy in the group. I represent the foundation that's always been there and that will always be there."
"Detroit Deli" is the follow-up to 2003's "Trinity (Past, Present and Future)," which debuted at No. 5 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It featured the single "Tainted" featuring Dwele, which reached No. 20 on Billboard's Hot Rap Tracks tally.
