naughty by nature

Legendary hip-hop icons, Naughty By Nature will celebrate their 10th Anniversary with a new album, iicons, to be released by Naughty/TVT Records April 2002. The international superstars exploded on the scene during the summer of 1991, introducing the concept of "O.P.P" and reminding the world that "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" on their self-titled debut, Naughty By Nature. Their second album, 19 Naughty III (1993) featured another crossover smash, "Hip Hop Hooray," which rivaled "O.P.P." as the national catchphrase of the early '90s. "Jamboree," "Uptown Anthem," "Feel Me Flow", and Treach's tribute to Tupac, "Mourn You Til I Join You," were more than just chart-topping classics and infectious party anthems, these records helped mold and shape the beginning of a unified hip-hop.

Naughty By Nature was the catalyst that ushered hip-hop culture into a new age, reaching new and diverse audiences around the globe redefining the boundaries of hip-hop. One of the first hip-hop groups to successfully walk the fine line between mainstream acceptance and street credibility, Naughty By Nature emerged as hip-hop's icons. Their previously released albums: Naughty By Nature (1991), 19 Naughty III (1993), Poverty's Paradise (1995), and 19 Naughty IX: Nature's Fury (1999) have sold over 4 million copies combined. The group has received numerous accolades in their 10 year career: Grammy Award for Best Rap Album; American Music Award for Best New Rap Group and a Source Award for New Artist of the Year (1991).

Vinnie and Treach (producer Kay Gee is no longer with the group) worked with a new stable of producers for their new album with the exception of production by: DJ Twinz on "Ashes To Ashes," Allstar on "Swing Swang," a dirty South song "Wild Muthafucka" produced by Lil Jon and featuring Lil Jon with Chyna Whyte; and "Industry" produced by Scott Storch (Eve, Dr. Dre, Christina Aguilera, Mobb Deep, Roots). Treach explains, "It's a Naughty record from start to finish. It's still our formula. We worked with producers who we felt could keep our music gritty and street, while at the same time make music that will be able to move hip-hop fans around the world." Vinnie adds, "This album promises to deliver fresh new party anthem songs that Naughty is known for. We definitely have some club bangas on this for our fans who like the catchy hooks." The duo returns with the radio-friendly "Feels Good," featuring 3LW and the naughty "What U Wanna Do" featuring Pink. Naughty gets a new theme song with Carl Thomas on "Naughty By Nature." Also featured on the album is another sizzla "Rock N' Roll" featuring Method Man & Redman and "Rah Rah" featuring Naughty protégés, Rottin' Razkals, and LA group Road Dawgs. Griffin & Wok produced both songs.

TVT Records, Billboard's nominee for R&B/Hip-Hop Independent Label of the Year, will release iicons, which is expected to hit stores Spring 2002. Vinnie & Treach join the rapidly growing hip-hop family at TVT Records, which includes Snoop's Doggystyle Records (Snoop Dogg & Tha Eastsidaz and Tha Angels formerly Doggy's Angels), BME Entertainment (Lil Jon & The EastSide Boyz and Chyna Whyte), a joint venture deal with Murder Inc. (CMC featuring JaRule), and Mr. Short Khop. Bryan Leach, Vice President of Urban A&R at TVT Records says of the signing, "Being a fan of Naughty, I have followed their career since day one. I'm excited about having Naughty at TVT Records. The experience and work ethic they bring affects our whole roster. No one makes anthem records like Naughty!" Vinnie adds. "With the heat we're bringing on this album, the producers, and artists we're working with, we're gonna make people love hip-hop again."
