The dynamic duo known as Organized Konfusion have been spitting mind-bending, intellect-soaked lyrics since 1986, when members Pharoahe Monch and Prince Poetry first met at a Queens, NY high school. Although Organized Konfusion would still get mad love from any DJ who knows his stuff, lately Pharoahe Monch has been getting all the spin time. He has been underground for years, now his hit single "Simon Says" can be heard on a Lugz commercial. It's about time the man can afford to get some cheese on his beef patty. We had the pleasure of running into the mic titan at a recent event and he sat down and gave us the 411 on his works in progress. The last time we spoke to him was after the video shoot for "Oh No," featuring Mos Def and Nate Dogg. During that shoot we asked Pharoahe whether or not the acting bug had got to him yet. He looked up with tired eyes, due to hours of shooting and waiting, then shooting some more, and said "Hell No!" We decided to let him field that question one-mo-again and this time the answer was much different.
See Also:"Well. I'm working on a screenplay right now that's close to being picked up," the Orange and Blue clad MC said. "I've been offered some things, but my passion would be to create something from behind the camera." When it comes to reporters, asking questions is second nature, but an industry savvy vet like Pharoahe is great at evading them as well. We asked him for a teeny-tiny tidbit of what his screenplay is about and we got nothing, but we understood. "I can't give the plot up," said Monch. "That's the whole basis for the film. It's on some really concocted Secret Squirrel-type stuff. That's the whole basis for the film, it's just unusual." Ok, ok ... we can dig it. Writers have that annoying habit of subconscious (and conscious) theft when it comes to phat ideas. Guess we'll have to wait and see about that one. In the mean time, we can still expect to hear bangin' joint after bangin' joint from the word-warrior. "Well. I'm eight songs into the new album. We've got Dr. Dre, Pete Rock, Hi-Tek, Keith Murray, Snoop ... I mean, it's gonna be a crazy album. It's gonna stay diverse because that's who I am. I feel that if it doesn't stay diverse then I would be frontin' on myself. So, there are a lot of different emotions and vibes represented." The Hip-Hop Summit is not even a month old and people are already jumping on the negativity band wagon. But Pharoahe, like most in Hip-Hop, believe that the Summit's success is yet to be realized. "I did not attend, but I was speaking to Talib Kweli and he told me it was a very positive event. Big up to Russell Simmons for spearheading the idea. People are always talking about they don't have a forum to be heard, and this gave us a forum and a voice. Hip-Hop is an important tool. It's the voice of the people." We can expect to hear that voice for many years to come. No word yet on when Pharoahe expects to finish his album, or when his script will be headed to the big screen. --Ricardo Hazell http://www.eurweb.com Related Videos:
