The first single, "Thin Line," out June 4th with the blistering beat from the phenomenal Khalil of Self-Scientific, will no doubt become an underground anthem of 2001. But Rasco demonstrates his growth both personally and professionally throughout his new effort. On trademark battle rhymes like ‘Lay Low’ and ‘Message From the Bottle’ Rasco calls out "career haters." But like any true artist, this celebrated MC continues to push the boundaries of hip-hop. The ode to his baby girl Ayana, "Sunshine," calls for all men to be a father to their child. Other collaborators include Interscope artist Planet Asia, Boston’s EDO.G and Reks, El the Sensei, 427, and Protest & Bahamadia. And in keeping with his past works, Rasco enlists many of the up-and-coming beat makers to get the freshest and most varied sounds possible. Guest producers include Protest, J. Rawls, His-Panik and Memo of Mole Men, and Roddey Rod.
See Also:Rasco has been at the forefront of the Bay Area’s indie hip-hop scene since dropping his classic "Times Waits for No Man" on Copasetik/Stones Throw Records in 1998. In fact, he’s made The Source magazine’s ‘best indie albums’ for the past two years in a row. Since then, Rasco has continued to drop quality projects while building his own creative empire. In 1999 he released a critically acclaimed EP "The Birth"(Copasetik) and the hugely successful LP with his partner-in-rhyme-Planet Asia, The Cali Agents’ "How the West Was One." Last year, Rasco executive produced the compilation "20,000 Leagues Under the Street" which showcased many of the Bay’s new talent and introduced his own record label, Pockets Linted. All this, while settling down with his girl and starting a family of his own. Rasco is a consummate artist. No gimmicks. Just quality hip-hop. Related Videos:
