"Oh No"is the First Vinyl-Only Release to Reach the #1 Spot on Billboard's Rap Single's Chart.
See Also:New York, NY--With the passing of another year, Rawkus Records find itself back at the top of the charts. As reported by Billboard Magazine on January 13th, the label's recent club smash, the Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch, and Nate Dogg-blessed "Oh No", is currently the number one hip-hop single in the country. Not only does the record represent the label’s third consecutive #1 entry on the magazine's Rap Singles measure, but it also marks the first vinyl-only release to claim that coveted position. That’s right, y'all-- that's vinyl sales only. That means no CDs and no cassettes! In an era of MP3 files, cable modems, and CD burners, this latest achievement can only be viewed as a triumph for hip-hop as a whole. With its Rawkus Distribution line now in full swing, the label's roster continues to expand and diversify, piecing together a lineup which includes such down-home staples as Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch, and Talib Kweli, and such imported talents as Interscope's Jurassic 5, Eastern Conference's Smut Peddlers, Flamboyant Entertainment's Big L, and Game Recordings' Royce the 5'9. Rest assured, Rawkus' abilities to move vinyl are just beginning to be tapped. "Oh No" is the label's third consecutive number one Billboard Rap Single, following up recent hits from Talib Kweli and Hi Tek ("Move Somethin'") and Big L ("Flamboyant"). Produced by Rockwilder, "Oh No!" is the first single to be released from Mic Media/Rawkus Records' Lyricist Lounge Vol. 2. Look for the LP's second single, the spunky, yet explosive Cocoas Brovaz/Hi Tek offering, "Get Up", to keep the underground clubs just as busy. "Get Up" gets 'em up on January 23rd, 2001.
