Gay-rights groups aren't the only ones blasting NARAS, the Recording Academy, over Eminem's four Grammy nominations, Billboard Bulletin reports. NARAS president/CEO Michael Greene confirms he has received "thousands" of comments, running 2 to 1 against the rapper.

"We've spent most of the week defending the indefensible," Greene said. "There's no question the repugnancy of some of his songs, but racism, misogyny, and homophobia are in the culture."

Eminem, who won two Grammys last year, was nominated for the Album of the Year award for his chart-topping album "The Marshall Mathers LP" and in three rap categories.

"I don't understand how they could ignore his hateful, homophobic lyrics in their decision-making process," Joan Garry, executive director of the Gay And Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation GLAAD, said on Friday. "It's just not OK to be provocative at the expense of an entire community of people."

GLAAD protested the MTV Awards in September after Eminem was nominated and invited to perform. But Garry would not say whether there would be similar demonstrations when the Grammy ceremony is held Feb. 21 in Los Angeles.
