My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance have spoken out about the suicide of Hannah Bond, the 13 year-old fan of the band from Kent who recently hung herself.

At a hearing about her death coroner Roger Sykes suggested that Hannah Bond’s suicide was linked in with her apparent obsession with emo music, saying that he found the overtones of the genre "disturbing".

Writing on the My Chemical Romance website, the band offered their condolences to Bond's family. They went on to say that as a band they were "anti-suicide", and that one of their aims was to provide "comfort, support and solace" to their fans.

The message read: "We have recently learned of the suicide and tragic loss of Hannah Bond. We'd like to send our condolences to her family during this time of mourning. Our hearts and thoughts are with them.

"My Chemical Romance are and always have been vocally anti-violence and anti-suicide. As a band, we have always made it one of our missions through our actions to provide comfort, support, and solace to our fans.

"The message and theme of our album 'The Black Parade' is hope and courage. Our lyrics are about finding the strength to keep living through pain and hard times. The last song on our album states: 'I am not afraid to keep on living' – a sentiment that embodies the band's position on hardships we all face as human beings.

"If you or anyone that you know have feelings of depression or suicide, we urge you to find your way and your voice to deal with these feelings positively."

The statement comes roughly a week before My Chemical Romance fans plan to march in protest against the media's depiction of the band.

The march will begin in Hyde Park in London on Saturday (May 31) and end outside the offices of the Daily Mail newspaper. Organisers are hoping that the My Chemical Romance protest march will attract around 1,000 supporters.

I would just like to say My Chemical Romance had no fuckin part of Hannah's death!!! I love them, I am only 15 and there my inspiration!!! There lyrics and music speek to me. If the lyrics had made Hannah depressed that's her opinion. In some cases music changes a person, depending on which perspective u look at. Do NOT BLAME THE BAND FOR KILLING HER, BUT THANK THEM FOR SAVING HER!!!! It is not the lyrics that kill, killed her but the thoughts!!! So parents do not judge a band before u listen. Thank u

I honestly think that this was a tragic loss for the parents of Hannah Bond, but I have to say that you cannot blame the type of music, or the type of clothing she wore because of her suicide. Now, when the parents found out that their THIRTEEN YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS CUTTING HERSELF, they should have done someting about it. If they knew that the music she was listening to disturbed them and thought that it would influence her in the wrong way, then why let your daughter listen to it? I just think that the parents could have played a MUCH BIGGER role in saving the life of their poor young daughter. I've lost someone close to me in my life as well, and they lyrics of My Chemical Romance's songs have HELPED ME, NOT MADE ME WANT TO HURT MYSELF. They incourage you to be strong, they help you to learn that there are others out there like you, feeling exactly what you're feeling, and there's ways of getting help. They send out a positive message, but just in a different way. When they write songs, to me they don't sugar coat it. They send out the messages like things in life aren't always going to go they way you want them too. Some parts of your life are going to make you feel like your life SUCKS, but there's always hope. They incourage you to go that extra mile to make yourself a better person. When I'm feeling down I listen to My Chemical Romance, when I'm HAPPY I listen to My Chemical Romance. You can't possibly think that because of the lyrics in their songs she commited suicide. PARENTS DONT LISTEN TO THE LYRICS. they hear what they want, because when some kids are out there, feeling down, they hear the messages MCR portray, but parents are too busy hearing the lyrics, without HEARING THE LYRICS. Peoples hearts go into these songs everyday. The Song FAMOUS LAST WORDS says "I am not afraid to keep on living", that got me through some tough times when I felt like there was no one there for me. There are people there for you, and I, myself aren't the type to talk about my feelings, but My Chemical Romance helps you to understand how many people truly love you. I don't know what's wrong with people today..

Bottom Line is: These parents could have done something when they had the chance, but decided NOT TO. & You can't blame MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE for her death, there must have been something EXTREMELY WRONG WITH HER, or she was just easily influenced by others, and didn't really listen to the lyrics like her parents. I feel for her, but then again.. I don't.

I have gone through family deaths and losses of friends and all the small shit that goes on in life with MCR. My Chems music has helped me through tough things where I just wanted to give up and die but their music has made me realise what is the point of doing such a stupid thing, The one thing I learnt and will carry with me for the rest on my life, My life moto - "Never give up on yourself or your life because that is the most stupid battle you could lose." And I hope that comes in handy for anyone else. :]

MCR are ant-suicide. Gerard Way actually spoke at their Adelaide concert about suicide and encouraged everyone there to seek help if they feel depressed. Gerard Way knows from his own ecperiences with suiced the deveststing effect it has on everyone around the sufferer. I have an actual recording of his speech. I am a 39yr old MCR fan who suffers from severe depression and MCR's message of hope and strength have gotten me through many dark times. If I feel I am on a downwards spiral, I listen to their music and messages and they never fail to pull me through. I doubt MCR in any way contributed to Hannahs death. Their was obviously something else going on. Why, after cutting herself did the parents not seek any advice? If she did it once she would more than likely do it again. I know this from experience. So leave MCR alone. They do a good job.

I just want to say, I am a My Chem fan and I am over 40 yrs. old. I have since 2004, had to deal with many issues that made me want to give up and die. I have suffered so many losses and so much pain.
I actually died for 2 minutes in major surgery in 2007. I made the decision to live. I know that I made that choice, that I was given that choice...there is absolutely NO DOUBT in my mind. I recall all the events during the time I had been flatlined. And while my heart goes out to this child's family, I must remind them that it is within our natures to try to find someone to blame for our losses and our pain. I pray that they find peace and focus despite their pain and loss.
My Chemical Romance has been a great solace and comfort to me in the past two years of great transitions in my life.
Their song "I don't love you" gave me inspiration and courage to deal with the break up of an 18 yr relationship after I discovered his secret life of drug addiction. And the song that says " I am not afraid to keep on living" has been my mantra since I died on Feb. 26th, 2007. I have had a life changing surgery and these songs have carried me thru my journey.
Again, my prayers go out to Hannah's family.
I am a mom too, with a 20 yr old that is fantastic, and complex and has her own issues, too.
But to try to blame artists, that try to give a vision and an artistic view on how life is, is just about like blaming Sylvia Plath, or the poet...can't remember his name...Coolidge? Blake? Too long out of college...but that poet claimed how life was so meaningless that we were nothing but worm food.
Yeah, 42 yrs. old...but I pass for my kid's sister..
and I wear black too!
Again, my prayers go out to Hannah's family...I cannot imagine losing my daughter...but please, do not confuse the insight and vision that your daughter saw in these artists for the cause of your daughter's death.
Again, I pray for your peace.

You couldnt be more true Gabriella. I feel very sorry for the Bonds family but My Chemical Romance did not do this. Okay, this was the girls favorite band but if she really was a real fan, she would not want them to be blamed right now.

She only misunderstood the lyrics. Hopefully now she can understand. RIP Hannah. (If you knew your child was cutting themselves, you shoud have gotten her help, i doesnt matter if she said she wouldnt do it again, that is not normal)

My Chemical Romance, if anything, fucking saves people- not promotes suicide. Maybe you should look into them better- and stop pointing fingers at easy targets.
Maybe she was messed up before and everyone else was just to oblivious to notice.
I mean, if she said "I want to kill myself", then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
She was asking for help, give it to her.. not ignore it.

The Black Parade has nothing to do with a place were "emos" go when they die.
That's fucking retarded.
My Chemical Romance has been my favorite band for years,
and they've only helped me get pass the thoughts of suicide and depression.
The whole purpose of them starting the band was to save peoples lives.

And I, and the majority of my friends, wear black, SO WHAT?
It's a color- it has no meaning at all.
I could be wearing pink and having negative thoughts all at once,
pink isn't a shield from "evil" and black isn't the source.
It's sad that a 14 year-old has to state the obvious to a bunch of 'educated' adults.
