Ugly Betty welcomes Pretty Lindsay tonight. The season-finale of Ugly Betty (Citytv, ABC) will feature none other than Lindsay Lohan, Queen of the Paparazzi. Okay, Britney Spears might have something to say about that. But if Britney could whitewash her image by appearing on How I Met Your Mother?, why can't Lohan do the same on Ugly Betty? It already has been confirmed that Lohan will appear in multiple episodes of Ugly Betty next season. But tonight we get a glimpse of Lohan's character. She'll be playing a mean girl. Quite a stretch there. Lohan is Kimberley, a high school acquaintance of Betty's who suddenly resurfaces in Betty's life. We're assuming Kimberley and Betty (played endearingly by America Ferrera) weren't exactly linemates on the high school popularity team. Tonight's episode also will feature supermodel Naomi Campbell and ELLE magazine editors Joe Zee and Robbie Myers, all of whom will appear as themselves. Mode, the fictional magazine at the centre of Ugly Betty, is matched up against ELLE in an annual charity softball game, a scenario that obviously has rich comedic possibilities. Campbell is ELLE's star player. Will Wilhelmina (the enchantingly evil Vanessa Williams) be able to strike Campbell out? Ugly Betty has enjoyed a bit of a comeback late in its sophomore season after floundering a bit -- in our opinion, at least -- at the end of its first season and the beginning of its second. But you know, now that we've typed that, maybe it's our own attitude that has changed. To enjoy Ugly Betty, you must completely suspend your disbelief. It's a cartoonish series, but it's cartoonish in a good way, if you allow your mind the freedom to go there. The music and the production on Ugly Betty are impeccable. Actually, it seems as if the production budget went up with recent episodes, don't you think? And Ferrera's irreplaceable status notwithstanding, Ugly Betty works because Wilhelmina and her assistant Marc, played by Michael Urie, are over-the-top brilliant. They have the style and verve of Batman villains. And we're talking about the great TV show, not the drab films. "You are a horror movie I wish would never end," Marc told Wilhelmina in last week's episode. Couldn't agree more. We also get a big kick out of Amanda, played by the gorgeous Becki Newton. As an example of the clever dialogue on Ugly Betty, last week Amanda was celebrating her fledgling television career when Marc excitedly said, "You're going to be a reality TV star! It's what every pretty girl with no specific talent dreams of!" For some reason, the cast of The Hills just popped into our heads. Hey, Lindsay Lohan could be on that show, too!
