They’ve arrived! The nominees for the 2008 BET Awards were revealed yesterday (May 15) during a special press conference on 106 & Park. Leading this year’s nominations is none other than Jive Recording artist, T-Pain with 5 nominations including 4 nods in the Best Collaboration category and one in the Best Video of the Year category for his appearance with Kanye West in “Good Life."
Though T-Pain’s contributions were recognized, Chris Brown, Kanye West, and Alicia Keys were also given some shine as well. Mr. Can’t Tell Me Nothing nabbed 3 nominations, while Alicia Keys and R&B prince, Chris Brown each snatched a pair.
Not only were the nominations revealed yesterday, but some of the shows presenters, performers and aforementioned nominees stopped by to talk with the media about the show and some of their upcoming projects. Usher, who’s opening this year’s festivities, talked candidly about his new project and is very excited to return to the spotlight “What? You don’t take four years off and then don’t come with banger, girl is you crazy?” Usher confirmed. He also revealed this year’s opening presentation will be a sight to see “The opening performance will be one to remember."
Cash Money Millionare, Lil Wayne, who picked up 3 nominations, including one for Best Hip Hop Artist, was visibly moved by the love from his industry peers. “I don’t know, it’s just pandemonium right now and I’m on cloud ten. I never expected this to happen, so I’m very overwhelmed. Thank you!” Wayne said with a dose of humility. When asked about the importance of winning compared to performing, he replied “The performance is more important to me; I’ve won an award before. Being nominated is winning to me. My name depends on this performance, I got me!”
