Producers for the 2008 Tony Awards announced that actress and comedian Whoopi Goldberg will serve as host when the show is broadcast June 15.

This will be the first time for Goldberg, who has served as host of the Academy Awards four times.

“I love Broadway and I’m thrilled to be doing anything for the first time,” Goldberg said.

Nominations for the 62^nd annual Tonys will be announced May 13.
