After more than six years since starring in the movie, “Signs,” actor Mel Gibson is set to return in front of the camera.
Filming will begin in August on a new thriller by Martin Campbell called “Edge of Darkness,” with Gibson in the lead role as an investigator searching for answers in his daughter’s death.
Controversy surrounded Gibson several years ago following his directorial effort with “The Passon of the Christ” when religious groups charged the film depicted Jews negatively.
Gibson’s follow-up film, “Apocalypto,” also suffered when the actor was accused of making anti-Semitic remarks during his arrest on DUI charges.
Gibson received an Oscar for best director in “Braveheart.”
