According to the Los Angeles Times, KROQ-FM (106.7) will today (May 5) announce that METALLICA will co-headline the station's annual Weenie Roast on May 17 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in in Irvine, California. Other performers include THE OFFSPRING, THE RACONTEURS, RISE AGAINST, PENNYWISE, BAD RELIGION, THE BRAVERY and FLOGGING MOLLY.

The Weenie Roast will be formally announced this morning on "The Kevin and Bean Show" on KROQ, and on-sale information will be coming shortly from the station via the airwaves and its web site, www.kroq.com.

The new METALLICA album is tentatively due out in September, with U.S. tour dates possibly in the works for around the same time.

The band has scheduled a slew of European festival dates for May, June, July and August in addition to two other U.S. shows, on May 16 at a radio festival in Tucson, Arizona and mid-June at the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee.
