Bachman-Cummings

It sounds like Bachman-Cummings, featuring former Guess Who bandmates Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings, is going in a jazz direction on its next album, which the duo plans on recording in February.

"It might be jazzy," Bachman told Sun Media. "He and I, always when we get together, we also do Chet Baker and Georgie Fame and Mose Allison. And I said, 'Why don't we just do an album of that?' And he said, 'Oh, I'm in love with Mel Torme, I've been getting all his stuff. I said, 'Yeah, you can do the Velvet Fog and I'll do the Velvet Schmog. I can do like, Mose Allison, which I can always do real well because he's always sharp and flat. This could be a cool album.' And he said, 'Yeah, let's do something. Let's challenge ourselves. Let's do something jazzy.' "

Bachman-Cummings' last album was 2007's Jukebox, a collection of pop and rock covers.

Meanwhile, the duo's Canadian dates this summer include June 19 at Molson Amphitheatre, July 25 at Belleville at Empire Square, and July 26 at Harris Park in London, Ont., plus they have renewed popularity down south thanks to PBS running their CBC-TV special which was turned into a DVD.

"PBS ran it in over 300 markets," said Bachman. "So we're starting to get calls as Bachman-Cummings. So our dream of becoming a brand is happening in the States. They knew it in Canada but now they're getting it in the States, so we're very, very thrilled with that."
