Cheri Oteri

Gaetano Thomas Oteri, a music publisher in Nashville and the father of former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Cheri Oteri, was fatally stabbed in the wrist with a pocketknife Saturday night by his friend, songwriter Rich Fagan. The murder happened after a drunken fight in the Nashville home the two shared, according to police.

Cheri has declined to comment on her father's death, but his son Brian Oteri has spoken up. He said Oteri, 69, was a peaceful man that rarely drank to excess.

He told The Tennessean, "I can't remember him once raising his voice to me. He would be the referee in any family argument. Dad never let things go too far."

Oteri's death has stunned the music industry, and many are saying that Oteri was someone who had come to Fagan's aid. Fagan, 61, wrote two No. 1 hits for country star John Michael Montgomery.

Fagan has been charged with criminal homicide and is being held without bond.
