U2 is holed up in their native Ireland recording their next album.

The band's guitarist The Edge said that he and his band mates singer Bono, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen, are focusing themselves to craft their twelfth studio album.

The Edge, however, did not elaborate on how the new album will sound and when it will be released.

"We went into this project allowing ourselves the indulgence of making music without thinking about where it was going to end up," he told newsday.com.

The band's last release, "U218 Singles," was a compilation of their greatest singles released in 2006.

Their last album containing all new material, the Grammy-winning "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb," was released four years ago.
