TORONTO - A woman accused of slashing movie star Leonardo DiCaprio in Los Angeles won't be sent to stand trial in the U.S. city any time soon after she was found guilty in Toronto yesterday of assaulting her ex-boyfriend.

Aretha Wilson, 38, turned to her family and shook her head as Justice Bruno Cavion convicted her of assaulting ex-boyfriend Wyatt Cote, 34, moments before he fell to his death from his eighth-floor Toronto balcony on Feb. 5, 2006. She will be sentenced May 5.

Because of the bizarre circumstances surrounding the assault -- Cote died before police were even aware of the assault -- Cavion relied on the testimony of Cote's friend, Colin Shand, who was in the apartment during an on-and-off row between Cote and Wilson.

Wilson testified it was Cote who threw a Stella beer stein at her, while Shand said Wilson charged at Cote, while he stood in the bathroom, before smashing it over his head.

Though there wasn't "a shred of evidence" that Wilson contributed to Cote's death, Cavion said, "I have no doubt in my mind that she did swing that glass and hit him."

Pointing to evidence of blood on the glass and a laceration to Cote's head, he added: "I suspect that she has simply blocked out of her mind" this detail from a "horrific evening."

"Self-defence does not apply," he said.

Meanwhile, an arrest warrant remains outstanding for Wilson, who is wanted by the Los Angeles Police Department for an alleged assault against DiCaprio.

Cops there charge that Wilson walked up to DiCaprio at a posh Hollywood party in June 2005 and hit him on the neck and head with a glass.

DiCaprio, who told police he recognized Wilson as a pal's ex-girlfriend, was left with 17 stitches -- 10 to his ear and seven to his neck.

Although the LAPD has indicated it wishes to extradite Wilson so she can face her charges in the U.S. city, that won't be possible until her Toronto case concludes.

Evidence pertaining to the DiCaprio assault hasn't been mentioned in the Toronto courtroom, although Cote's family members say they expect it to come up at Wilson's sentencing.
