A new unscripted TV series starring Canadian comedian Howie Mandel is coming to Global and NBC. The series tentatively is titled Howie Do It. The show will be filmed in Canada and simulcast on Global in Canada and on NBC in the United States during the 2008-09 TV season. Apparently there's a bit of a "back to the future" thing going on at Global these days in terms of Canadian comedians from the 1980s. The Howie Do It announcement comes on the heels of recent reports about an upcoming animated series starring Bob and Doug McKenzie, with voices provided by their real-life SCTV alter-egos Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis. Who's next, Conrad Bain? Anyway, in recent years Mandel has enjoyed a successful and high-profile gig as host of the NBC game show Deal or No Deal. In 2007, Mandel headed home to host the highly rated, five-episode spinoff, Deal or No Deal Canada, which aired on Global. Mandel also is known for his work on St. Elsewhere and Bobby's World, as well as his too-numerous-to-count comedy specials and talk-show appearances. A tireless workaholic, Mandel continues to make hundreds of standup-concert appearances every year, all across North America.
