Bruce Springsteen has postponed his next two concerts due to the death of his longtime keyboard player Danny Federici. The keyboardist died Thursday after a three year battle with melanoma. He was 58.
Federici, who met The Boss in the late '60s, was responsible for the stylish work that defined Springsteen's E Street Band. Federici died at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
He last performed with the band during portions of a March 20 show in Indianapolis. Out of respect for his longtime friend, Springsteen postponed concerts Friday at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, and also postponed his Saturday concert in Orlando. Both concerts will be rescheduled.
Federici was born in Flemington, New Jersey, and met Springsteen in the late 1960s. The two played together in four bands before hitting it big with the E Street Band. Federici's organ solo was a highlight of Springsteen's first top 10 hit, "Hungry Heart."
