Katie Holmes is reportedly filing for separation from husband Tom Cruise, according to a report on Thursday.

The news of a trial separation comes after reports in the UK's Daily Mail stated that Cruise wanted Holmes to stay away from one of her close Hollywood girlfriends, Victoria Beckham, because the negative effect their friendship was having on Holmes' attitude to her own body.

Star magazine also claims that Holmes, 29, is trying to break away from the controlled life of her marriage with Cruise and move to Manhattan in a sort of trial separation.

The news of a separation comes soon after TV actor Jason Beghe, who is reportedly friends with Cruise, slammed the Church of Scientology in a rant released on YouTube.

Holmes and Cruise were married in Bracciano, Italy on November 18, 2006. The two have one daughter, Suri, together.
