Former The Clash guitarist Mick Jones will be honoured with the Inspiration Award at the first ever NME Awards USA. Jones will pick up the prize at the ceremony in Los Angeles on 23 April (08), where he will also perform with his band Carbon/Silicon. Conor McNicholas, editor of the British NME magazine, says, "The Inspiration Award is hotly debated amongst the NME editors, but the decision we reached was unanimous - Mick Jones is a true hero to NME. "The Clash were the magnificent reason most of us got into alternative music in the first place, but Mick has never been one to rest on his laurels. "Mick is an innovator, a visionary, a class songwriter, a great singer and a demon guitarist, but that’s not all. He truly is an inspiration. Mick’s spirit, sense of mischief and dedication to the rock ‘n’ roll cause make it a real pleasure and honour for NME to name him our Inspiration Award winner in 2008."
