Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony may be in more hot water with his fiancée LaLa Vasquez than with Denver authorities following his arrest Monday morning for suspicion of DUI.

According to local news affiliate KWGN, the MTV VJ refused to pick him up at the hospital where he was taking blood tests as part of his DUI arrest.

No so, says LaLa. Here's what she told People Magazine:

"I want to make sure the public understands that I fully support my fiancé, Carmelo Anthony, and stand by him through this ordeal. I will always have his back and never refused to pick him up from the police station. In fact, they offered to bring him to me."

Also, the Denver Police Department has launched an investigation into whether several of its officers gave preferential treatment to the Denver Nugget during his arrest.

Denver law mandates that DUI offenders are either taken to Detox or released to a sober, responsible party. After the arrest, Anthony was handcuffed and taken to Denver Health Medical Center where he submitted to a blood test. Police called Anthony's fiancée to pick him up – but LaLa refused to come get him, leaving police with only one choice -- take Anthony to Detox.

But that didn't happen. Instead, the sergeant who responded personally took Anthony in his police car to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in downtown Denver, were Anthony and LaLa were staying.

Also, police are supposed to tow the cars of DUI offenders to either an impound yard or a "safe, neutral location." But in Melo's case, his $130,000 silver Mercedes was driven personally by a cop to a police parking lot where it had the least chance of being vandalized.

Denver Police say they stand by their decisions even though some believe Anthony may have received special treatment. Spokesperson Sonny Jackson defended the officers' actions, stating: "Perceptions are everything, and I understand that. People perceive a lot of things. Ultimately, I'd rather answer questions about perceptions than why a car got vandalized."

Anthony, meanwhile, awaits his blood test results to determine if he will, in fact, be charged with DUI.
