Smashing Pumpkins

Singer-songwriter-guitarist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin of the SMASHING PUMPKINS will be inducted into Hollywood's RockWalk on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at noon. Corgan and Chamberlin will be honored by fans with a special ceremony at Guitar Center in Hollywood.

Hollywood's RockWalk is the only sidewalk gallery dedicated to honoring those artists who have made a significant impact and lasting contribution to the growth and evolution of rock 'n' roll, blues and R&B. The SMASHING PUMPKINS' handprints will reside alongside the handprints, signatures, and faces of other equally accomplished musicians and innovators such as Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Bonnie Raitt, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, John Lee Hooker and EARTH WIND & FIRE, among numerous others.

The SMASHING PUMPKINS will begin recording new material later this spring, but the band doesn't expect to release a full-length follow-up to last year's comeback album, "Zeitgeist". Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin told Spinner.com, "I don't think we will make records again. I look at it like the old business model is dead and the music business doesn't know how to move forward. We want to keep things vital and keep things viable and get our music across while remaining relevant. Music has in many ways just become an advertisement for your tour."

Chamberlin said the PUMPKINS, who are out of their record contract, will probably start releasing songs, explaining, "It's just in our best interest to release blocks of songs. And I think what we'll do...is to create the framework where we can release a number of songs and maybe create a title. We can gather three or four songs, but it will all flow up to a larger body of work."

The drummer added that he and PUMPKINS leader Billy Corgan will begin working on May 1 at the band's newly purchased studio in Chicago.

The PUMPKINS did issue a four-song acoustic EP called "American Gothic" through the iTunes store earlier this year. But Chamberlin said he expects the band's new tunes to be "grander," adding, "I'd like to go bigger. And I think the next time the PUMPKINS tour, you'll see a big stage presence with eight to 10 people as opposed to just five."
