Erykah Badu

Erykah Badu has revealed she harbours no bitterness towards her ex-boyfriend, Outkast's Andre 3000.

The couple went out for two years in the mid-1990s and have an 11-year-old son together, Seven.

"We were very young when we had Seven. Andre was 21, and I was 25. It was quick. We were so much in love," the soul singer revealed in the latest issue of Vibe.

"We just knew that we were gonna be together forever and ever. But things happen.

"His career swept him one way, mine swept me another. Seven, our common bond, our invisible umbilical cord, kept us tight."

After almost a four-year hiatus, the 37-year-old returned with new album, New Amerykah Part One (4th World War), released last month.

Her new material includes monologues in Kemetic, the phonetic version of hieroglyphic Egyptian, and songs comprised of mantras without recognisable choruses or hooks.

Erykah denies she is being progressively adventurous on purpose, saying: "I do what makes me feel really good. And I don't try to do musically anything on purpose, because that's not fun."
