Turmoil erupted last night (April 9) at Indiana University, after students protested the shut down of a DMX concert. According to the Indiana Daily Student, students paid $25 a ticket to see X perform at Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity house last night, but the concert was closed down after three songs. When students protested the show's end, the Indiana University Police Department began to spray the rowdy crowd with mace to keep order. The concert was supposed to begin at 8:30 p.m., but it was delayed until 9:30 p.m. due to the late arrival of X, as the fraternity had difficulties getting the superstar rapper to the house. The fraternity had an agreement with the University that the concert would end at 9:30 p.m. When the concert didn't conclude at the aforementioned time, officers arrived to shut it down. DMX was taken off the stage and additional officers were called in when the crowd began to shout profanities at the police. An eyewitness confirmed that X had alcohol and told students he would pass it through the crowd. Cops then rushed on the stage to prevent the distribution. IUPD, Bloomington Police and State Police were called onto the scene, the witness told reporters. After the crowd began to get rowdy, police began to mace. The eyewitness said students started throwing things at the authorities and despite police reports, not one student rushed the stage. Students threw trash and that was the extent of their damage. IUPD confirmed that Lambda Chi Alpha prearranged with Indian University Student Activities Office for the concert to end at 9:30 p.m. At press time, neither DMX nor Lambda Chi Alpha were available for comment.
