Toby Keith

When Natalie Maines called Toby Keith's "Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American)" an "ignorant" song back in 2002, she set off a spat between Toby and the Chicks that had both sides trading barbs in the press and Natalie wearing a T-shirt that insulted him on a national awards show. What could possibly bring them together?

The answer, it seems, is global warming. Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection kicked off a $300-million, three-year advertising campaign last week in an effort to unite people to eradicate man's negative impact on the environment. In that spirit of unity, future ads in the program will bring together people with opposing views who can at least agree on this specific topic. Among the unlikely pairings will be liberal pastor Al Sharpton and ultra-conservative televangelist Pat Robertson, Democrat Nancy Pelosi and Republican Newt Gingrich, and — of course — Bush-bashers the Dixie Chicks and Bush-supporter Toby Keith.

According to The San Francisco Chronicle, Gore is frustrated at politicians dragging their feet on global warming and believes the general population is convinced the threat is a real one we need to act upon. He's convinced that showing people with opposite agendas coming together will spur Americans to voice their support for an agenda that curbs global warming, basically forcing political leaders to take action.

I can't wait to watch this video. I think it's importance goes beyond even the important issue of climate change and protecting the environment. It also speaks to the treasure that is the ability to come together in mutual forgiveness. What a wonderful message!
