WAIT... THERE'S MORE STUFF
Music means partnerships -- rock had John Lennon and Paul McCartney, punk had Joe Strummer and Mick Jones and electronic music has Sasha and John Digweed.
Progressive house music pioneers Sasha and Digweed are returning to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio together for the first time since 2002.
"Something magic happens when we DJ together," Sasha, whose real name is Alexander Coe, said in a telephone interview from Miami during last week\'s Winter Music Conference, where the pair kicked off their tour.
Sasha said on his own, his cuts could be construed as being too light, full of too many melodies, and Digweed\\\\\\\'s could be too dark.
"We absolutely balance each other out," Sasha said.
The pair met in the early 1990s at the club Renaissance in Mansfield, United Kingdom.
John Digweed and Sasha will perform together at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio for the first time
since 2002. "We\'re really excited to be back," Sasha said.
They spun breakbeat, house, songs with vocals and other genres.
"It\\\'s everything and that\\\'s the whole idea of what progressive house was," Sasha said. "It\'s always been about the best records you can get your hands on at that moment."
By the mid-1990s, the pair had become superstars on the electronic-music circuit with the release of the double-CD set "Northern Exposure."
In 2002, the pair traveled North America on the Delta Heavy tour, touring like rock stars on a tour bus.
While they\\\'ve still performed together throughout the past five years, each has been working on his own projects.
"You move with the times, you move with the music," Sasha said.
Digweed has been working on a series of releases called "Transitions" and Sasha is readying "Involver 2" for a release in June.
"It\\\'s a very summer-sounding record," he said.
He plans to play some cuts off the new disc on tour with Digweed.
Sasha and Digweed are ending their tour together at Coachella, what Sasha predicts will be the apex of the pair\\\\\\\'s dates across the country.
He said that a festival crowd is similar to the crowd at a large venue.
"They\'re going to want to hear records that work in a big room, big arena-filling records," he said.
Sasha said that the pair was honored to be asked to join the lineup together for the first time in six years.
"It seems a long time ago," he said. "We\\\\\\\'re really excited to be back."
