Gwyneth Paltrow’s actress mother Blythe Danner has laughed off claims the Oscar winner’s marriage to Chris Martin is in trouble, insisting they are "happy, happy people".

The ultra-private superstar pair haven’t been spotted in public together for some time, prompting tabloid speculation their relationship is on the rocks.

But Danner insists the rumor, and the claim Paltrow has quit acting, are both untrue.

Speaking at the New York premiere of the movie The Visitor on Tuesday night, Danner said, "Oh good god! It’s just tragic that people have to make up stuff and write stuff

"I’ve never seen two happier parents and people. Happy, happy people. I don’t get it. They’re saying Gwyneth isn’t going to go back to work, which is a lot of BS (rubbish) too. She very much wants to go back to work. I think unfortunately you have to do your research and not follow the hearsay."

However, Danner does confess Paltrow is trying to find a "balance" between working and being a mother to Apple, three and Moses, one, telling OK! magazine, "She’s a great, wonderful actress. But motherhood is very important to her, as it was to me, and she’s finding the balance. And it’s hard to find that balance."
