Motley Crue rocker Tommy Lee was reluctant to star in an environmentally-friendly reality TV show - but was persuaded by his children.

The 45-year-old star - who has sons Brandon and Dylan with Pamela Anderson is not a fan of reality TV, but agreed to take part in upcoming U.S. program Battleground Earth because he fears for the future of his children.

He explains, "I was definitely not down to do another reality show because we have too many of those and they’re stupid.

"But I’m doing this for my kids. Environmentalism is a serious sort of subject but you’ve got to make it fun or you freak people out."

The 10-episode Discovery Network show, which premieres in August (08), also features rapper Ludacris.
