Simon Cowell bought X Factor winner Leona Lewis a $5 million home in Beverly Hills, much to the chagrin for the American Idol host's girlfriend Terri Seymour.

The home was bought to become a U.S. base for Lewis, the British singer/songwriter.

Cowell has mentored Lewis since she appeared on X Factor, the show that Cowell produces. Lewis has been an extraordinary success and the house was a sign of congratulations.

Lewis' debut album Spirits became the fastest-selling debut album ever in both the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

Lewis has set several historical records, becoming the first British female vocalist to top the Billboard Hot 100 since Kim Wilde in 1987 with her song "Bleeding Love".

Lewis, 22, has halted on buying a $1-million house with boyfriend Lou Al-Chama in London because the owners put the price up. Lewis currently lives in a flat in Hackney.
