TMZ.com is now reporting that the jail where Sean Levert was being held may have contributed to his death. According to TMZ, jailers physically restrained Levert right before he died. Though the jail's warden, Kevin McDonough, says that he went willingly and cooperatively with the jail staff when they bound his wrists and shackled his feet, the Cuyahoga County jail staff told TMZ that Levert was out of control and hallucinating. The staff says that they had to put Levert in a restraining chair because they believed he was a danger to himself.

"There are no words that can express what we are feeling today," reads the family's statement. "There is no song that can capture the loss that we have in our hearts. But we are humbly overwhelmed by the generous outpouring of love, condolences and support from the many friends, fans and admirers of our son Sean. At this very difficult time, we thank you for your prayers and hope you will understand our need for privacy.” The Leverts are suffering from yet another sudden death that has struck their family. In November of 2006, Sean's older brother, 40-year old Gerald Levert, died of an accidental mix of prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Both Sean and Gerald were sons of legendary O'Jays lead singer, Eddie Levert. On Sunday (Mar. 30) night, Sean Levert fell ill at the Ohio jail, where he was being held since last week after being sentenced to 22-months for non-payment of more than $80,000 in child support. Levert was rushed to Lutheran Hospital less and died at 11:57 p.m., less than an hour after he arrived. An autopsy report conducted a day after his death was inconclusive, but according to the coroner, there was no "foul play" involved. The coroner's spokesperson also noted that Sean Levert had high blood pressure, and was hallucinating in jail. TMZ.com reported that Levert was being held on the mental health floor of the jail. Toxicology results could take four to six weeks, but check back for updates on this developing story.
