When Broadway set the tone for popular music in the early-20th century, the row of New York publishing companies where songwriters worked was dubbed Tin Pan Alley. Nashville has since become one of the songwriting capitals of the world, and in April, the city presents its annual composer showcase, Tin Pan South.

Sponsored by BMI, Josh's April 5 performance at the Mercy Lounge will have him flanked by two of the men responsible for some of his biggest hits: Shawn Camp and Pat McLaughlin. Shawn was a cowriter of "Would You Go With Me," and Pat joined him in writing last year's hit "Firecracker," so the show will probably feature plenty of those low notes Josh has made a signature of his sound. But there'll likely be plenty of material that's associated with other artists: Shawn wrote the Brooks & Dunn single "How Long Gone" and the Garth Brooks title "Two Pina Coladas," while Pat's written Gary Allan's "Songs About Rain" and Steve Wariner's "Lynda." Josh, of course, got started with a song he wrote on his own, "Long Black Train." Some of the other songwriters who'll be spinning hits and stories during Tin Pan South, April 1-5, include Vince Gill, Trent Tomlinson, Jimmy Wayne, Jessi Colter, Rodney Crowell, Richie McDonald and Alabama's Teddy Gentry.
