Anne Murray is in the running for Album of the Year in the Juno Awards, Canada's equivalent to the Grammys. But she was a little miffed about it when the nominees were first revealed: The final list is based solely on sales figures, and her album Anne Murray Duets: Friends & Legends was originally nowhere to be found.
See Also:"It was strange," Anne told the Canadian Press, "because I knew what my [sales] numbers were, and I saw some of the other numbers and I thought, 'Well, how did they figure that?'" As it turned out, they figured it wrong, and Anne's album was later added to the list, meaning six albums are now up for the honor instead of the intended five. Anne is up against Avril Lavigne, Feist, Michael Buble and two albums by Celine Dion. Though she was originally unhappy with the ballot, Anne is okay with any of the finalists coming out on top. "They're all really good-selling albums and all good, upstanding artists," she said, "so whoever wins, may the best man win." Anne's album is loaded with stars. Among the other artists whose voices grace the CD are Emmylou Harris, Martina McBride, Shania Twain, Nelly Furtado, k.d. lang, Olivia Newton-John, Shelby Lynne and the late Dusty Springfield.
