After Kristy Lee Cook turned her Beatles song into a country hoe-down on Tuesday night, most "American Idol" fans thought she would be saying goodbye during Wednesday's elimination round. The show took a surprise twist, and David Hernandez was sent home instead.
Cook, Hernandez and Syesha Mercado were in the bottom three and even Cook thought she would be the one leaving the show as she joked with host Ryan Seacrest to just give her the microphone so she could start singing her farewell song.
America got the last laugh, however, by voting off Hernandez.
The singer had been plagued by bad press all week, when a story broke about him being a nude dancer in a male strip club. Usually they say "any press is good press" but it apparently didn't work for Hernandez.
Next week the producers of "American Idol" are going to continue the theme of Lennon-McCartney songs. Eleven contestants are now left standing as the show heads toward finding the seventh American Idol.
