The following information and documents were sent to us by a HHNLive.com reader. It's in reference to the on-going ownership claims of the Diplomat brand. The details provided are those of Charisse Willis and do not necessarily represent the opinions of HHNLive.com.
See Also:---------- When HHNLIVE.com interviewed Digga in November the whole internet was buzzing because of this article and the new information about the ownership of the Diplomat brand. Several other sites immediately tried to discredit the information in Digga’s interview. False and inaccurate information was and has been posted as recently as of last week. This information is public so when it’s misrepresented the way it has been it makes you wonder what these bloggers and websites have to gain by telling flat out lies. This is the information that was reported. ----- As recently as November of last year, there were still disputes about who really owned the Diplomats brand. Digga, a Harlem-based producer and former Dipset affiliate, came out of the woodworks claiming he was the rightful owner of the Diplomats brand, and he even went so far as to say he had the paperwork to “prove” it. Well, after a little detective work, we discovered that the true and rightful owner of “The Diplomats” brand name is one “Cameron E. Giles.” That’s right. According to records from the U.S. Patent Filing Office, Cam’Ron filed for ownership of “The Diplomats” name and logo in October of 2005 and retains full ownership. But ownership of the “Diplomats” brand name may actually come down to semantics. Although Cam owns “The Diplomats,” Jim Jones filed to use the name “Diplomats” on CDs and DVDs in 2006, and followed that up with a filing to use the name on clothing in January of 2007, which all amounts to a poor attempt at getting some equity in the Diplomats brand a little too late. So although Cam’Ron owns “The Diplomats” name and official logo, Jim Jones still has the right to use “Diplomats” on CDs and clothing, but not the logo. And in case you were wondering, Cam’Ron also owns ALL the rights to DIPSET. Sorry Jimmy. Source, thecorporatetakeover.net also published by Missinfo.tv blog ----- First off, this is not a patent application as mentioned above. I’m no lawyer but a patent is an exclusive right to an invention. The above article seemed to be biased and had some confusing statements, so I decided to do a little work of my own. This is the information I uncovered. Below is a notice of opposition filed by Joseph Jones a.k.a Jimmy Jones on February 01, 2007. Jimmy filed his opposition because he disagreed with and wants to stop Cam’rons trademark APPLICATION. I put application in capital letters to stress the fact that this is still merely, Cam’s application and in no way demonstrates Cam’s ownership as stated in the above article. At the trademark office, one must first apply, show evidence of usage and be awarded ownership. OWNERSHIP OF THIS MARK HAS NOT BEEN AWARDED TO CAM’RON OR JIMMY. ![]() The next filing is by Cameron Eugene Giles. This is his official answer on March 13, 2007 filed with the court explaining why he should be able to proceed with his APPLICATION. To summarize Cam’rons answer he says, he is the only owner of the Diplomat mark and that he and Jimmy are no longer working together as a group. ![]() ![]() While these websites are reporting incorrect information, the real story lied within Cam and Jimmy’s own words! They declared in legal documents that they have parted ways and will not work together as a group again. This contradicts everything that they’ve stated publicly since the feud between them started. We’ve all heard statements from the camp like, “we’re brothers and brothers fight” “at the end of the day it’s Dipset,” that’s not what they say in these court papers. We also learn from a little investigation that the fights between Cam and Jimmy have been going on way longer than it has been reported. The fight has also gotten so bitter that the dispute doesn’t end with Diplomats and Dipset; there is also a battle over the true owner of Byrd Gang Records which is widely associated with Jim Jones and his movement. This information is public at the United States Trademark Office and anyone who wants to be factual should not just find an application, but a REGISTRATION before they report who owns what. A final note, further digging uncovered the first Diplomat trademark application, which was filed in 1999. The two names involved in this application were Darrell “Digga” Branch and Cameron “Cam’ron” Giles. This application states that the two were co-owners of the Diplomat mark as early as 1999. This could possibly be what Digga was referring to. These two guys along with Jim Jones are all applicants at the United States Trademark Office in regards to the Diplomat mark. This story is STILL developing; it is in no ways resolved! They said “duh, Cam owns it” that is clearly false and bad reporting. They said Jimmy can use it on clothes and cd’s but not the logo, this is clearly false and bad reporting. Where did they do their detective work that they spoke of? Who are their sources, because they should never use them again! The same offices and links they tried to refer to in their article was the source of my information! This is not an opinion, this is factual information that can be verified at any given time.
