Drew Barrymore cashes in a million for the children. The 'Charlie's Angels' star pledges $1 million from her own pocket to United Nations' World Food Program to help fight hunger among African children.
The 33-year-old actress/producer announced her generous donation on The Oprah Winfrey Show, where the UN's 'Fill The Cup' campaign kicked off.
"I have seen with my own eyes what a difference a simple cup of nutritious porridge can make in a child's life," Barrymore says. "It helps them learn, stay healthy and sets them on track for a bright future. I urge everyone - everywhere - to help WFP Fill The Cup for hungry children, and make hunger history."
Barrymore has traveled to Kenya twice in two years as a WFP ambassador, which exposed her to the hunger situation in a school in the slums of Nairobi. The program is a part of a larger campaign to raise $3 billion to guarantee nutritious school meals for 59 million students in developing countries.
